Energy level/descriptors:: Timba is noted to have a medium energy level in the prior home.

Other Notes:: Knows to relieve himself outside and will rarely have indoor accidents. On walks he chews on his leash and is reportedly reactive towards strangers who approach his family and other large dogs he sees walking. His reaction ifs to growl or bark and on some occasions he may snap at them as well. He is unbothered by being startled, held, restrained, moved from furniture, having his paws touched or collar grabbed by his person. He has never been disturbed while sleeping. He is described as a active, playful, and independent dog who prefers contact on his own terms. He spends most of his time in the living room of his home and he enjoys snacking on beef and chicken treats. He reportedly pulls very little on his leash during his usual 20min long walks he goes on twice a day and he knows the cue stay. He loves car rides and is known to be very loyal to his people.

Summary:: 07/12/26: Due to Timba's fearfulness, whale eye, Tucked tail and avoidance of handlers a handling assessment will not be condcuted at this time.

Summary (6):: 7/18/26: Timba is lying down at back of kennel as handler approached. Once handler opens the kennel door Timba starts trembling. Handler is able to lay leash loop over his head. Once leashed he comes out of kennel. Handler takes him for a street walk. Timba pulls hard thru the hallway heading outside. While outside Timba walks ahead of handler with a tense body and low tail. Timba is aloof and ignores any treats offered by handler. He is returned to his kennel once his walk is complete with no issue. 7/16/26: Timba is laying down in his kennel with a tense body as handler approaches. He slowly stands up as the handler unlocks the door and is able to be slowly lassoed. He then pulls on the way outside for a walk. On the walk, he continues to pull ahead with a tense body and low tail. He does not interact with the handler and would explore around with sniffing and is able to relieve himself. He pulls on the way back to his kennel and is able to enter with no issues 7/15/26 (AM - Trainer Note): Timba is sitting at the front of his kennel with a tense body, trembling, and wide eyes as handler approaches. He dodges the leash multiple times with a low head. He does not respond to treats or squeakers but is able to be leashed and removed from kennel. He pulls very hard out of the care centers, often pausing to hack due to the leash pressure. Timba is taken to the yard where he immediately relieves himself. He pulls towards the fence facing the street. He is taken to the street for the remainder of his walk where he remains tense bodied, tail tucked, panting, occasionally lip licking, and pulling very hard away from the care centers. At point he hacks up some bile due to his pulling. Handler pauses and extends hand towards Timba, he approaches to sniff and immediately disengages. Handler has to use moderate leash pressure to turn around back to the care centers. He is returned to kennel without issue. 7/14/2026 (Trainer Note):Timba is standing in the middle of his kennel with a tense body and whale eyeing as handler approaches. He begins to tremble as he is being leashed and ducks the leash a few times. He is removed from kennel and taken to the street for walk. Timba immediately relieves himself, straining to defecate. Throughout his walk he displays high levels of FAS, tense body, tucked tail, panting, salivating, and avoiding eye contact. He pulls hard towards the parked cars on the street. Timba is returned to kennel without issue.

Summary (7):: 7/13/2026(Trainer Note): Timba is laying down towards the back of his kennel with a tense body as handler approaches. He begins to tremble as the handler unlocks the door and attempts to leash him. He avoids the leash multiple times but eventually allows leashing and is removed from kennel. He is taken to the street for a walk where he remains distant from handler with a tense body, occasionally lip licking. He relieves himself and continues his walk. He avoids eye contact, pants, and salivates throughout his walk. When passing by cars he pulls towards them. Timba is returned to kennel without issue. 7/12/26: Timba is laying down at the front of his kennel with a tense body as handler approaches. He remains laying down and begins to tremble as the handler slowly leashes him. Once leashed, he is then taken outside for a walk. On the walk, has a tense body as he walks ahead of the handler. He has no reactions to dogs or people and begins to pull hard on the way back to his kennel. He is return back to his kennel with no issues. 7/12/26: Timba is at the back of his kennel curled up and shaking hard. The handler places the leash over his head and he will get up and walk up to the front of the kennel and will exit slowly. He is then brought out to the behavior office where he will seek exit with a tucked tail, wide eyes and lowered head. He is then taken outside to the play yard where he will pull moderately and seek exit as well. He is brought back inside to his kennel with no issue. 7/10/26: Timba is laying down on his bed at the back of his kennel as handler approaches. He has a tense body and widened eyes as the handler unlocks the door and he remains laying down on his bed. He refuses to come forward for treats and would lower his head as the handler slowly attempts to leash him. He is able to be slowly lassoed and he then slowly comes out of kennel. He is then taken outside for a walk. On the walk, has a tense body and tucked tail as he walks ahead of the handler. He would constantly stop walking behind the handler when he heard sudden sounds. He is slowly able to return back to his kennel with no issues. 7/9 (AM): Timba is curled up tightly when a handler approaches. They offer him pieces of chicken breast and sliced cheese, but he does not react, sniff, or show any interest. His body is tense and trembling, with his ears back and whale eyes. The handler moves slowly and drops the leash over his head. Once on, Timba readily stands and exits on his own. Due to his fearfulness, he is brought to the behavior office. He briefly paces the room, lingering near doors, seeking an exit. He remains tense, maintains his wide eyes, and tail tucked. Timba is soon returned to his kennel out of concern for his stress levels. He tolerates the lead being clipped and returns to his kennel without issue.

Recommendations comments:: No children (under 13): due to Timba's behavioral history in a home environment, we reccomend he is placed in an adult-only home. No cats: Timba is noted in the prior home to hard bark and growl at cats; due to this, we recommend he is placed in a home with no cats. Recommend no dog parks: In the prior home Timba is noted to hard bark and growl at unfamiliar dogs; due to this, we reccomend no dog parks. Place with a New Hope partner: Timba came into the care center as an owner surrender due to him being too big for the residence. His owner described him as a active, playful, and independent dog who prefers contact on his own terms. He spends most of his time in the living room of his home and he enjoys snacking on beef and chicken treats.Timba has not acclimated well to the kennel environment and has allowed only minimal handling since intake. We recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based) and re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home.

Client reported with toys he may growl but only when he is playing tug of war. Management and training should focus on reinforcing relaxed behavior around valued items and building positive associations with people nearby. Please see the handout on Resource guarding. Fearful/potential for defensive aggression: On intake Timba is reported to have growled and barked hard in his crate. We recommend low-stress handling and allowing him time to acclimate will be important in helping him feel more secure. Please see the on Fearful/potential for defensive aggression. On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration: Timba is noted to be reactive to stanger on walks who approach his family and other large dogs he sees walking. His reaction is to growl or bark and on some occasions he may snap at them as well. Training should focus on creating distance from triggers and teaching alternative behaviors to replace reactive responses. Pleasae see the handout on-leash reactivity/barrier frustration. Leash-biting: In the prior home he is noted to chew on his leash.Training should focus on promoting calm leash behavior, improving handler engagement, and redirecting him to appropriate outlets when arousal levels increase.
