Animal Profile

Mimi Moon

Hello, my name is Mimi Moon. My animal id is #243623. I am a male gray cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 3 years 1 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 12/13/2025, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- moving.

Sorry, this pet is for new hope partners only.

Pre-Screener Form

Mimi Moon is on the at-risk list due to behavior. He is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. He has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. Due to his stress levels, it is in his best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. He would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give him plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with helping a fearful cat adjust to strangers.

KNOWN HISTORY:: Mimi Moon was brought in with limited information on his behavior history in a home environment.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 12/18/25 FB20 Lifted den cover, Mimi Moon had dilated eyes and airplane ears. He pressed herself against the den wall, looking to flee. When the den cover was placed back on, he hissed and spit. Mimi was left with dry treats. 12/19/25 FB20 Mimi displayed similar behaviors as the previous enrichment note. He was left with a catnip toy. 12/21/25 FB32 Lying down hiding in den, steps back and sits up when removing den cover. Begins low grumbling when reaching close with catnip on scratcher tool. Sniffs catnip on tool, continues to step back with head facing down. Allows cheek rubs for 30 seconds and stops grumbling. After he calms down, I slowly pull the tool away and return the den cover. 12/22/25 FB73 Mimi Moon is laying inside of his den, backing up against the back wall as the den cover is removed. Treats are offered with the scratcher tool, and he does not take them. Petting is attempted with the scratcher tool and brief contact if able to be made on top of his head before he hisses, low growls, and hard swats the tool. 12/24/25 FB73 Mimi is laying inside of his den in a loaf position, pupils dilated, body very tense. He gets up into a crouch position and backs up as the handler lifts the den cover and begins hissing and spitting. He is tolerant of petting on the head and cheeks with the tool briefly before swatting at it. Mimi Moon is left with treats, and interaction is ended to reduce FAS.

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Mimi Moon retreated inside the den with wide, wandering eyes and displayed defensive behavior, swatting, hissing, and low growling when contact was attempted, leading to the assessment ending early to prevent severe fear, anxiety, and stress. Mimi Moon is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. He is extremely fearful in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
