She enjoys long walks & walks very politely. She perks up for toys and will trade however, she does resource guard toys and food. She should always be left alone while engaged with these items. Luna lived with a medium mixed breed and has done well in playgroup. Lately, she has become increasingly pushy with the resident dog, taking his toys or eating his food. She may require behavior modification training to further explore what may be causing her to escalate to these higher-level warnings in her previous home.

Potential challenges: : Resource guarding,Anxiety,Handling/touch sensitivity,Fearful/potential for defensive aggression,On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration,Other

Potential challenges comments:: Resource guarding: Luna guards both food and toys. She has been observed to snap at staff in the care center when being fed. During her assessment she hovered and growled over the toy. Nothing should ever be taken directly from Luna. We recommend always trading for something of equal or higher value. Please see handout on Resource Guarding. Handling/touch sensitivity: Luna is uncomfortable with having her paws touched. She will bark and growl. She was not comfortable during the handling portion of her assessment. She tolerated touch but was uncomfortable with being restrained. She gave whale eyes, closed mouth, and began to whine. She has been more comfortable with touch in a more natural setting but is reported to prefer contact on her own terms. She does well with a slow approach. Please see handout on Handling/Touch Sensitivity. Fearful/potential for defensive aggression: Luna is fearful in the care center. Although she displays some social behavior and solicits attention, she is conflicted with contact and begins to lip lick and whale eye. She has been observed to display wariness and is easily startled by loud noises or sudden movements. Luna has escalated to high warning levels in her previous home, growling, lunging, baring teeth and charging. We are unaware if these behaviors are triggered by fear specifically but it is possible for Luna to escalate the these behaviors should she become triggered in a new environment. Please see handout on Potential for Defensive Aggression. Anxiety: Luna is highly anxious in the care center. She is often panting, whining, pacing. Her owner reported her to be anxious in the home as well. We recommend puzzle toys, long walks, and giving her other things to focus on to alleviate her anxiety. Please see handout on Generalized Anxiety. On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration: Luna is reported to lunge at cats, other small animals and moving objects (bikes, scooters, cars, etc.) Lunas adopter or foster should be prepared to manage this behavior. Please see handout on On-Leash Reactivity. Other: Owner reported that Luna recently has bee triggered by doors closing. They explained that Luna seems to have a behavioral issue with doors and whenever they are closing a door, Luna charges at her. Luna will sometimes growl, lunge and bare teeth.
