Summary:: According to Zeus's previous owner(s), With familiar dogs he is tolerant, friendly and outgoing. With unfamiliar dogs he will hard bark and growl. On/off leash unspecified. 08/24/25 Zeus is introduced at the gate to a female helper dog. Zeus will approach the gate with a still frame and helicopter tail. He will mark in the direction of the helper dog, becoming looser along the gate line. Due to appearing under the weather, a face-to-face greet wasn't conducted. This concludes the interaction.

Summary (7):: 08/24/25: Zeus is lying down in the back of his kennel but gets up and slowly approaches the front, greeting the handler with a loose, wiggly body while also taking treats gently from the handler’s hand as he is leashed. He is then brought to the play yard to meet a playmate. Once inside, a drag leash is placed on him. Zeus approaches the greeting gate, displaying tail wags, but is removed from the yard due to kennel cough and cross-contamination concerns. He is then returned to his kennel safely and without any issues. 08/19/25 (BA) Zeus is sitting in front of his kennel door with a neutral frame as the handler approaches. The handler easily leashes him, proceeding to the assessment room. Zeus appears slightly fearful displaying a slight tucked tail, hyper-vigilantly scanning his surroundings. As he enters the assessment room, he becomes a bit loose in frame, exploring the room. He will allow for the handler and assessor to collar him. (Please refer to BA in Behavior section for more insight). Zeus is returned to kennel with no issue. 08/19/25: Zeus approaches the kennel with a loose frame and ears back. The handler is able to easily leash Zeus and escort him out for a walk. Zeus will spend his time slightly a head of the handler mildly pulling with ears back with a low head. Zeus will explore his surroundings as he smells what ever aroused his interest, sometimes fixating where other dogs have marked. Zeus is escorted back to his kennel where he is unleashed and safely secured. 8/18/25: Zeus is standing at the front of his kennel as handler approaches. He is able to be leashed with ease and he pulls hard on the way outside to the yard. While in the yard, he would explore around with a neutral body frame. He would become tense and try to pull towards dogs that would pass by. He is only able to be redirected shortly with a squeaker. He pulls hard on the way back to his kennel, and tries to pull towards dogs while on his hind legs with a tense body. He baulks to the ground outside his kennel room door, and the handler has to jog him back to his kennel. 08/17/25: Zeus's behavior remains consistent with note from 08/16/25(PM). 08/16/25(PM): Zeus is lying on his kuranda bed with a neutral frame as handler approaches. As handler unlocks the kennel door, he comes forward and is leashed with ease. Zeus pulls moderately to the Canine Behavior Office. He readily approaches handlers with a loose wiggly frame, accepting petting. Handlers collar Zeus, clip him to a drag lead, and he is free to explore the space. Zeus is loose-bodied and social throughout his time in the room. He jumps up onto handlers in a social manner and will spends several minutes playing with soft toys. He takes treats gently from hand. Potential challenges: : Resource guarding,Fearful/potential for defensive aggression,On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration,Low threshold for arousal

Potential challenges comments:: Fearful/potential for defensive aggression: Zeus prefers interactions on his own terms and may react defensively if approached too quickly. He has been observed to hard bark, growl, and lunge at unfamiliar people, indicating fear-based reactivity and a need for slow, respectful introductions and trust-building exercises. Please see the handout on Fearful/potential for defensive aggression. On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration: In the care center Zues is noted to lunge and display a tense body towards dogs. This behavior suggests frustration or discomfort when restrained and exposed to other animals, and would benefit from controlled exposure and redirection techniques. Please see the handout on On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration. Low threshold for arousal/Resource guarding: In the prior home Zeus is noted to have a tense body/hovers over when his food and treats are touched, he will snap at when his water is touched. The owner reported that since Zeus returned to their care after being rehomed, his behavior has significantly changed.
