Summary:: Due to entering the facility as a stray, there is no prior dog-to-dog history recorded. 8/15/26: Freddy is introduced to a novel intact female and approaches the fence with a loose body and high wagging tail, in partial play bow position. He sniffs nose to nose through the fence and sneezes. The other dog rubs along the fence and Freddy follows her through the fence and when they are nose to nose again Freddy begins clacking at the other dog, lunging, high pitched barking, and fixating as he is pulled away. 8/1/26: Freddy is introduced to a novel neutered male and approaches the fence pulling hard with a forward leaning body and high flagged tail. The other dog snaps through the fence and he begins high pitched barking while continuing to pull towards the other dog. He continues high pitched barking as the other dog leaves the yard, fixating on them and even trying to push through a fence opening. He is then introduced to a novel neutered male and pulls strongly towards the fence and begins to muzzle punch and bite at the fence. He continues pulling towards the other dog high pitched barking as he is led out of the yard.

Summary (5):: 9/5/26: Freddy is at the front of his kennel with a loose body, stretching as the handler approaches; a treat is used to lure him and the handler leashes him. Once outside, as a dog barks and pulls towards him, Freddy high pitch barks and slightly fixates on the other dog; he only disengages when the handler walks him in another direction. Freddy walks with mild to moderate leash tension, with no reactivity to people. Freddy allows pets and sits on command. Upon entry, the handler removes Freddy's harness with ease; he is returned to his kennel with ease. 9/4/26: On the whiteboard, Freddy is noted to leash bite and wasn't redirectable with treats. 9/3/26 (PM): Freddy is reported to leash bite intensely in the yard; he repeatedly jumps up to bite and tugs the leash. He showed no interest in treats. Freddy stopped leash biting after the handler unclipped the leash from his harness, and he returned to his kennel with ease. 9/1/26: It is reported via white board that Freddy was screaming at dogs. 8/31/26: It is reported that Freddy is highly dog reactive and will begin vocalizing loudly. During one instance while reacting to another dog Freddy began thrashing, and the leash almost came off. 8/31/26: Freddy is reported to be highly dog reactive, even kept in the driveway he's lunging and pulling very hard towards other dogs and cannot be redirected. 8/28/26: Freddy is at the front of his kennel with a soft body; the handler clips their leash to his harness and brings him out the room. Freddy walks with mild to moderate leash tension; he sniffs one passerby with a loose body, but doesn't react to anyone else. Freddy allows pets from the handler. Upon entry, as the handler walks Freddy out the elevator, he stops walking and stares at another dog a few feet away; the handler quickly pulls him away. Freddy enters his kennel and the handler unclips his harness.

Summary (6):: 8/27/26: It is noted on the whiteboard that Freddy's PM walk was a huge improvement, that he saw 3 dogs and showed no interest. 8/26/26: Freddy is reported to be very dog reactive; he pulls hard towards and vocalizes at them 8/25/26: It is noted on the whiteboard that Freddy is screaming in the driveway and the street. 8/8/26: Freddy is at the front of the kennel with a soft and wiggly body. He yawns while the handler unlocks the kennel and presents the leash. Freddy is easily leashed and walks with the handler out of the room and downstairs towards the street. On the street, Freddy walks with a loose leash besides the handler. He checks in with the handler for treats. He takes treats softly. Every time he checks in, the handler has him sit which he follows eagerly. When Freddy is walked back towards the shelter, he begins to pull hard. He is returned to kennel without issue. 8/07/26: It is reported via white board that Freddy is very vocal outside and screams towards other dogs. 8/01/26 [LATE ENTRY]: Freddy is taken to the the yard for a playgroup session; he is placed on the drag-line. While waiting for another dog to be brought over for a greeting, Freddy is engaged and social with the handler. Handler bends down in front to pet him and Freddy displays a loose body, leaning into the handler. After few seconds handler stops petting him and gets up; Freddy immediately jumps up toward the handler with an open mouth, making repeated attempts to grab the handler's clothing with his teeth. Handler moves away trying to ignore him. Freddy remains focused on the handler and makes few more attempts to re-engage by jumping up and grabbing at the clothing again. A second handler comes to assist and is able to grab a drag-line and pull Freddy away with no further escalation. 8/01/26 [D2D]: Freddy is at front of his kennel with neutral body when handler approaches. He is easily leashed with a treat lure and taken out of the kennel. He pulls hard in the hallways and attempts to jump on few pop-up crates. Handler is able to pull him away; in elevator Freddy sits next to the handler and accepts treats. He is taken to the yard for the playgroup (see notes). During return handler is able to pre-clip the leash and bring Freddy back into his kennel with ease. 7/26/26 (Assessment): Freddy ws standing at front of kennel with a neutral body. He was easily leashed and taken for a street walk before his assessment (Please see assessment notes for details). While on walk he maintained a neutral body and walked next to handler with a slack leash. He displayed no reactivity to dogs or people while on his walk. When going to behavior room one of the dogs in a crate barked and he pulled towards the crate barking. He was social with handlers during his assessment. He was reutnred to kennel with no issue.

Summary (7):: 7/29/26 (Trainer Note): Freddy was at the back of his kennel on approach. He was easily leashed with a treat lure and taken to the training room. Once he was there he was able to engage with place. He was able to hold place while the trainer moved around the room and for up to 15 seconds. He engaged with a snuffle mat before returning to kennel with no issue. 7/25/26 (Trainer Note): Freddy was at the back of kennel laying down when trainer approached. He stood up and came to the front of the kennel with a loose body and soft features. He was leashed with a treat lure and pulled hard towards the training room. Several yards in front of the training room he was pulling so hard he started to pass out. Trainer stopped and walked slowly with him to the training room where the leash was removed and replaced with a collar. He was able to engage with place repetitively opting into training. He held place for several seconds and trainer was able to take several steps away. On the way back he repeated pulling hard almost to the point of passing out. He was rekenneled with no issue. Trainer came back and put a harness on him, making him harness walks only. 7/22/26: Once placed into kennel Freddy was observed to be biting and pulling the kennel door inwards. 7/22/26: It was observed while waiting for his kennel that Freddy was receptive to enrichment staff provided during his time in admissions. He was able to engage with chews and snuffle mats fully settling at handlers feet.

ENERGY LEVEL:: We have no history on Freddy so we cannot be certain of their behavior in a home environment. However, they will need daily mental and physical activity to stay engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in addition to physical exercise, to positively direct their energy and enthusiasm.

Recommendations comments:: No children (under 13): Due to his social hyperarousal, we recommend a home with no children. Single-Pet Home/Recommend No Dog Parks: Due to the concerning behaviors that Freddy has shown during playgroup (see DOG-DOG SUMMARY), we feel that he should not visit dog parks and be the only resident dog. The Behavior Department recommends that he be socialized in a more controlled setting until his behavior towards other dogs can be further addressed. Reward-based, force-free training can be utilized to help Freddy associate dogs with things he enjoys like toys or treats.

Potential challenges: : Social hyperarousal,On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration

Potential challenges comments:: Social Hyperarousal: Fredyy quickly becomes over aroused in the presence of people, jumping up and mouthing their clothing. Positive reinforcement, force-free training should be used to teach Freddy to remain calm when people and other exciting things are around. Freddy should be rewarded with treats when calm. If they escalate to jumping or mouthing, people should immediately walk away from and separate themselves from Freddy. Please see handout on Arousal. On Leash Reactivity: Freddy has been observed to bark at another dog that was in a pop up crate while he was on leash. This behavior was easy to redirect. Freddy will need positive reinforcement, reward based training to teach them to look at you rather than other dogs. We recommend a front clip harness to help manage this behavior.
