Sweet Green
Hello, my name is Sweet Green. My animal id is #254549. I am a male white dog at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 9 years 1 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a stray on 5/15/2026.
Sweet Green is at risk due to medical concerns. Sweet Green is a senior intact male with right sided hemiparesis and a low appetite. He needs continued medical care and management and ideally a neurology consult. He also was treated for otitis externa in both ears on intake, has periodontal disease, and is a bilateral inguinal cryptorchid. Behaviorally, he is timid but allows all medical handling.

What my friends at ACC say about me: My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet! It is unknown if I have ever lived with other animals or children. I have medical needs that staff will address with you when you meet me. I am a sweet, social, older gentleman, looking for the perfect forever home! I am playful and cute!

It is the policy of ACC not to perform surgery on any animal over the age of 8-10 years due to the higher risks incurred in a shelter setting. The veterinarian is hereby issuing a permanent spay/neuter waiver, from the spay/neuter requirements of the City of NY due to the estimated age of this animal. ACC does recommend you consult with your veterinarian to determine if surgical sterilization is appropriate.

Details on my behavior are...
Behavior Condition: 2. Blue
Date of intake:: 5/15/2026
Means of surrender (length of time in previous home):: Stray(Unknown History)
Date of assessment:: 5/20/2026
Summary:: Sweet Green is currently unable to undergo a handling assessment due to his ongoing medical concerns. He was surrendered as a stray, so his past behavior in a home setting is unknown. In the Care Centers, Sweet green has nervous, body tense, not taking treats, vocalizing/howling.He appears to be friendly and tolerant of most handling during his walks. His determination is reflected in the limited behavioral information we've gathered and observed. However, it’s unclear whether his behavior will remain consistent or if new behaviors may emerge once he is fully medically cleared. Positive reinforcement should be used when working with Sweet green
Summary (7):: 5/21/26 (KSV): Sweet Green was asleep at front of kennel when handler approached. Handler unlocked kennel and tried to wake Sweet Green. It took several attempts before he finally woke. Handler spoke to him and attempted to pick him up but Sweet Green just readjusted himself and closed his eyes to go back to sleep. Handler left him alone.
