I came into the shelter as a stray on 12/15/2017.

Rocky is at risk for medical reasons, having been diagnosed with Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease Complex, which is contagious to other dogs. We suggest that Rocky would be best suited to a dog experienced home.

A volunteer writes: Rocky is an eager stout and short chap who bolts like a rocket out of his kennel. He is quite cute I must say, well made, muscular without being over the top and is so excited to show what he can do with balls and toys. He jumps and runs after a tennis ball, does head shots and most often catches. He likes to rest on the ground and savor a teddy bear given as a present to him by another volunteer. He can sit on command for treats, jumps on the bench next to me and lets me pet him without any problem. He very much enjoys the scratching of his back and neck. Rocky pulls on the leash and does his business on the way. He pulls toward and barks quite a bit when he sees another dog, male or female. Who knows, he may never have met many of his own kind. Rocky is intense about what ever he wants and does. He most likely will need some general curbing to make a gentleman out of him but he has lots of elements that make him a good dog and a suitable candidate for obedience training. Come and meet our Rocky at the Manhattan Care Center. He surely would love to be home for the holidays.

Hx: presented to MACC on 12/15 as a stray; no concerns noted on intake or for the first 48 hours; today was noted to be coughing and had blood in stool and urine S/O -BAR, energetic and friendly, sweet boy and allows all handling -mm pk, sl tacky; CRT <2 sec -no nasal discharge or sneezing -hacking cough with end gag, worse on leash but noted in cage as well; no obvious sensitivity on tracheal palpation -mild laryngeal stertor, likely due to brachycephalic breed -eupnic, mild referred upper airway noise but otherwise lungs quiet; no heart murmur or arrhythmia noted, SSFP -soft abdomen -2 normal scrotal testicles -prostate enlarged but soft and nonpainful on palpation; light brown soft stool noted on glove but no blood seen -urinated a small-moderate amount of yellow urine with no obvious blood; appeared to be marking behavior but may represent pollakiuria? A 1. Cough-r/o CIRDC vs bronchitis vs cardiac 2. Blood in urine-not noted today, r/o BPH vs other 3. Hx: dx with CIRDC after 3 days in shelter; resp PCR positive for mycoplasma and canine coronavirus; reportedly had episode of blood in stool and blood in urine S/O -BAR, appears friendly at front of cage -no nasal discharge, sneezing or coughing noted during observation -eupnic -no reports of diarrhea or blood in urine A 1. CIRDC-active but improving 2. Blood in urine-appears resolved, r/o BPH vs other P CWCT

[Spay/Neuter Waiver - Upper Respiratory Illness] Your newly adopted animal is in treatment for an upper respiratory illness. The veterinarian is temporarily waiving this animal from the spay/neuter requirements of the City of NY until such time as the illness has resolved and the pet has sufficiently recovered. At that time, this animal must come into compliance with the spay/neuter requirements.

Sedated for DVM exam and Radiographs with 0.5mL Butorphanol (bottle #1) and 0.4mL dexdomitor IV at 1:40pm (dvm 1382) Took radiographs of thorax,abdomen, and cervical area. Gave 2.5ml cerenia SQ Reversed with 0.4 antiseden IM.

Upon intake, Rocky was wagging his tail and allowed me to pet him and collar him. When another dog walked into, Rocky began barking and pulled the finder towards the other dog. The other dog left the lobby and Rocky continued to bark and pull very hard on the leash. When finder left, Rocky pulled hard on the leash towards the door and began to whine.

Basic Information:: Rocky is approximately a 2 year old male gray and white large mixed breed dog. Rocky was found as a stray on 12/14/2017 at around 11:40pm. Finder took him home for the night but surrendered him because his landlord does not allow pets. Rocky has no injuries or health problems and has not seen a vet recently.

Summary:: Rocky approached the assessor in the assessment room with a soft body. He was distracted at times, sniffing around the room, but was social at other times. He allowed all handling and displayed no concerning behaviors.
Summary (1):: 12/16: When introduced off leash to a female dog, Rocky vocalizes through the gate, then comes in with tense body. He greets and sniffs, maintaining slightly tense body throughout. At this time, it is recommended Rocky be allowed time to decompress outside the care center before immediate introduction to unfamiliar dogs. Future follow up should be conducted at a slow pace, to respectful dogs.

ENERGY LEVEL:: We have no history on Rocky so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. However, he is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm.
