My volunteers report I sit perfectly for treats and takes them very gently, and I absolutely LOVES treats. They say that I have such a lovable middle-aged man vibe, which they really adored. I am was very responsive when called and overall came across as a friendly guy. If you like the sound of my vibe please reach out today to learn more about me! What my friends at ACC say about me: My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet! It is unknown if I have ever lived with other animals or children. I have medical needs that staff will address with you when you meet me. I would do best in a home with only adult humans. I will flourish in a calm environment and a low-traffic home.

Summary:: 3/22/26- Euphrates gate greets another dog with a neutral body with a high wagging tail with front hackles up. He has a tight lip as he sniffs.

Summary (6):: 3/30/26: Euphrates is standng at the front of his kennel barking, neutral body. He stops when handler approaches and unlocks the kennel door. He is easily leashed and removed from kennel. He pulls hard down the hall, walks slow down the stairs then begins to pull to the street. On the street he relieves himself often. He then will check in with handler, and is rewarded with treats. He takes treats gently. He has a low body going up the stairs. He is easily clipped and returned to kennel.

Summary (7):: 3/25/26: Prior to the walk, the handler tosses treats into Euphrates' kennel and he eats them. Euphrates is at the front of his kennel with a neutral body. He is easily leashed and brought out the room. On the street, Euphrates walks ahead with mild to moderate leash tension; he doesn't react to passersby and dogs. Euphrates also follows the 'sit' command and takes treats. Upon entry, the handler clips their leash and returns Euphrates to his kennel. 3/24/26: PM WALK: Euphrates is at the front of the kennel tense. He is easily leashed and taken out of the room. He is walked to the street where he pulls moderately to hard. He stops to sniff various spots on the ground and relieves himself a few times. Handler walks him back to the shelter and he is returned to kennel without issue. 3/24/26: As primary handler exited the room with Euphrates, he quickly turned towards the handler to jump up at face level with an open mouth and began leash biting intensely and started to tug on the rope. The primary handler passed the leash to another handler as they tossed treats, which he ignored. Euphrates is then taken out to the driveway, and he would begin to pull very hard on the leash and would relieve himself. He would watch dogs with a tense body but is easily redirected by walking in the opposite direction. Euphrates would begin to explore and walk around with no issue; shortly after, he was then returned back to his kennel with no further issues, and interaction was then ended. 3/22: Volunteer Note - Briefly interacted with Euphrates in the backyard again. He was loose body, and wagged throughout the entire interaction. Sat nicely for treats, and accepted head and body petting. He especially loved butt scratches. 3/21: Volunteer Note - In the driveway, while staff was chatting with someone who had another dog, Euphrates showed no reaction to the other dog. On the street, he walked slightly ahead of the handler with a mild pull and seemed to really enjoy a sniffy walk. He sits perfectly for treats and takes them very gently, he absolutely loves treats. 3/20/26: It is reported via the whiteboard that Euphrates is good on a leash, no pulling. 3/18/26: Euphrates is reported to intensely leash bite when placed on a dragline. He would jump up high, bite, and tug on the leash while growling. This behavior was not able to be redirected, and the handler was not able to remove the drag leash from him. 03/12/26: Euphrates is at the front of his kennel as handler approaches. He is leashed while distracted with treats and is taken to the street for his walk. Outside he pulls moderately and passes people on the street without issue, he stops to sniff occasionally but rarely stops pulling. He walks with handler for a while before being brought back inside for his assessment. Once complete he is returned to kennel and interaction is ended shortly after.

ENERGY LEVEL:: We have no history on Euphrates so we cannot be certain of their behavior in a home environment. However, they will need daily mental and physical activity to stay engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in addition to physical exercise, to positively direct their energy and enthusiasm.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: New Hope Only

Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Place with a New Hope partner

Recommendations comments:: No children (under 13): Due to fearful behavior, we recommend an adult only home. We recommend placement with a New Hope rescue partner who is able to provide an experienced, adult-only foster home. Force-free, reward based training and/or consultation with a professional trainer/behaviorist is highly recommended.

Potential challenges: : Handling/touch sensitivity,Fearful,Leash-biting,Low threshold for arousal

Potential challenges comments:: Handling Sensitivity/ Fearful: Euphrates was observed to become tense and hard stare at the handler when they initiate contact. They should never be forced to approach anything that they are uncomfortable with or submit to petting or handling. It should always be their choice to approach a new person or thing. Euphrates would do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment and should be given time to acclimate to their new surroundings. Please see handout on Decompression Period. Please see handout on Handling and Touch Sensitivity. Arousal/ Leash Biting: Euphrates has been observed to jump up high, bite, and tug on the leash while growling. This behavior is not able to be redirected easily. This behavior had been observed while on leash and while on a dragline. Positive reinforcement training should be used to teach Euphrates to remain calm during arousing situations. If they begin to escalate, people should pause the interaction, and create distance from the trigger. Pattern games such as 1-2-3 treat and the cue “mat” can be used to reinforce calm behaviors. Please see handout on Arousal.
