Katy
Hello, my name is Katy. My animal id is #251210. I am a desexed female tabby cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 12 years 1 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 4/3/2026, with the surrender reason stated as animal health - cannot afford vet bill.
Katy needs emergency placement for medical reasons. She is a senior cat with diabetes mellitus and is not eating consistently in shelter. She enjoys pets and needs medical care in a veterinary clinic to manage her insulin until her appetite stabilizes.

This pet needs emergency placement. Please click here to go to our emergency placement page for more information. Katy needs emergency placement for medical reasons. She is a senior cat with diabetes mellitus and is not eating consistently in shelter. She enjoys pets and needs medical care in a veterinary clinic to manage her insulin until her appetite stabilizes. A volunteer writes: Katy is a sweet senior gal whose family could not afford the diabetic care anymore and for quite a while. She is said to be a quiet, friendly and affectionate kitty who likes to spend time with her people. She never mingled with cats or dogs. Katy has been a very good patient in the medical room where she is very much loved and has been quite welcoming of her visitors, meeting them at her door and enjoying gentle words and petting in the form of head bunting and purring. Lately, Katy has been a little quieter, not eating that well, both her illness and being cage-bound taking a toll on her. Being home with a DM savvy foster or adopter and under close supervision of an outside veterinary clinic is most likely what lovely Katy needs to get better and thrive. Our sweet Katy needs you...now. Katy is laying at the back of her kennel, body relaxed, head up as she observes the room around her. When the kennel door is opened, she immediately gets up to walk forward, greeting the assessor at the front of the kennel with soft head bunts. Katy allows all petting, leaning in and lifting her back as she is pet. When pickup is attempted, she is able to be picked up but remains slightly tense when she is held. When she is placed back into her kennel, Katy remains at the front and continues to softly head bunt and lean into all petting. Katy interacts with the observer, solicits & appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. No known history of behavioral problems. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for cat parents with either an average amount of cat experience or demonstrate a basic understanding of typical cat behavior.
