Summary:: Leash Walking Strength and pulling: Hard Reactivity to humans: None Reactivity to dogs: Mild Leash walking comments: Barking or pulling towards other dogs while on leash When brought into the assessment room Peeber Jelly was observed to be tense and have a slightly low body while sniffing around the room. The handler calls Peeber towards them and he approaches. The primary handler then attempts to clip a dragline to Peeber and he becomes tense, the handler begins to move away when Peeber lunges towards them and attempts to bite them on the arm. The secondary handler is able to pull Peeber away and he is returned to kennel. Due to the high levels of fear, stress, and anxiety displayed. Peeber is not a candidate to receive a handling assessment at this time.

Summary:: Due to entering the facility as a stray, there is no prior dog-to-dog history recorded. 8/25/26: Peeber Jelly is introduced to a novel intact male and is tense at the fence with high wags. He sniffs the other dog nose to nose through the fence while lip licking with hard eye contact. The other dog turns away and he does a partial lunge into a wide stance and begins alert barking. The other dog puts his nose towards the fence again and Peeber Jelly sniffs through the fence briefly before the dog turns away and he alert barks again. He then pushes his snout through the fence opening and bounces along the fence line with hackles raised continuing to bark.

Summary (6):: 8/26/26: Peeber Jelly is reported to pull hard on walks. Additionally, he becomes overaroused after being petted once. 8/25/26: Peeber Jelly is jumping up and standing on his hind legs when the handler approaches; he is leashed and brought out the room. Peeber is brought to the yard for playgroup (see D2D notes); afterwards, the handler clips their leash and walks Peeber inside the room. While walking to his kennel, Peeber stops and stares at the dog next to him in kennel; as the other dog reacts to him (hard barks and jumps on kennel door), Peeber vocalizes lowly and attempts to pull towards the kennel. However, the handler already has him on a short leash and muscles him into his own kennel; they remove their leash with ease. 8/23/26 (Assessment): Peeber Jelly is at front of kennel with a neutral body. He was easily leashed and pulled from kennel. He displayed some reactivity to dogs on his walk. When one dog got of eyesight he barked after them. When he saw another dog he pulled toward that one. When he saw a small dog he paid no attention to that dog at all. He was then brought into the behavior room for an assessment (Please see assessment notes for details). When the assessor was trying to leash him he put his legs around them and tried to bite. He was taken from the room by the handler and returned to kennel. 8/21/26 (AM walk): Peeber Jelly is at the front of his kennel with neutral body when handler approaches. He is not receptive to treats but still allows leashing and willingly exits the kennel. He pulls hard all the way out of the room but has no interest to other dogs in neighboring kennels. Once in the hallways he continues walking slightly ahead of the handler with no reaction to pop-up crates or staff members. When Peeber gets to the driveway he slows down and continues walking next to handler. He sniffs a lot and pulls toward areas he wants to discover and eventually relieves himself. Peeber has no reaction toward other dogs or people passerby. His body remains neutral. Peeber is not receptive to treats and is not engages. He does not respond when handler calls him and remains aloof most of the walk. During return handler is able to pre-clip the leash and bring Peeber Jelly back into his kennel with no issues.

Summary (7):: 8/20/26 (PM): Peeber jelly is at the front of the kennel with a loose body as handler approaches. He was not interested in treats but was leashed easily and was ready to leave. On the way out of the room Peeber pulled the entire way out.Once out Peeber starts to sniff and smell when first leaving the driveway unresponsive to calls and treats. On the way back to the Shelter peeber walked back fine pulling back into the building but was able to get clipped easily by handler and jumped into kennel with no issues. 8/20/36: Peeber is at the front of his kennel as handler approaches. He attempts to push his head out of kennel and avoids the leash but is eventually leashed without much issue and is taken to the street for his walk. Outside he is somewhat fearful of sudden noises or movements, Peeber walks with handler for a while and relieves himself shortly into the walk. He passes people on the street without issue and when walked past dogs he shows mild curiosity but passes them without issue. He is walked for a while and stops to sniff throughout the majority of the walk, after a while he is returned to kennel without issue and interaction is ended. 08/19/26: Peeber Jelly is at the center of his kennel as handler approaches, he sits and alert barks at handler. Handler kneels down and away from Peeber who continues to bark, he stops as handler offers some treats, Peeber is slow to approach but he eventually approaches and sniffs handlers treats. He sniffs for a moment and continues to bark. Handler kneels facing away from Peeber until he eventually stops which takes a while. Once handler stands Peeber continues barking at them, handler decides to return in a bit to allow Peeber a moment to reset. Handler reapproaches later and Peeber is easily leashed and removed from kennel before following handler out to the street for his walk. Outside Peeber stops frequently to sniff and scent mark throughout the walk, he is walked around the street for a bit uneventfully and passes people without interest. He is brought back inside eventually and returns to kennel without further issue.

ENERGY LEVEL:: We have no history on Peeber Jelly so we cannot be certain of their behavior in a home environment. However, they will need daily mental and physical activity to stay engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in addition to physical exercise, to positively direct their energy and enthusiasm.

It is important to move slowly with Peeber, to build positive associations (treats/toys/praise), and to allow them to initiate interactions with new people.
