Sorry, this pet is for new hope partners only.
Pre-Screener FormRamen is on the at-risk list due to behavior concerns in care and in his previous home. Ramen in his previous home would reportedly guard his food items, and lunge at strangers and dogs while on leash. Ramen in the care center has not been acclimating well and has been intensely fearful during his stay. Ramen will remain tense, avoid handlers and remains hyper vigilant during interactions. Medically, Ramen is healthy.

Ramen in the care center has not been acclimating well and has been intensely fearful during his stay. Ramen will remain tense, avoid handlers and remains hyper vigilant during interactions. Medically, Ramen is healthy. Ramen came into the care center as an owner surrender due to his owner's moving. Ramen is a vocal and fearful dog who tends to be aloof and prefers interactions on his own terms. He enjoys being near his people and knows to settle in his crate at bedtime. While he loves bath time and playing in water, he does not tolerate nail trims from his family. Ramen enjoys car rides but can be nervous when first getting into the vehicle. He responds to basic cues such as "sit," "stay," and "paw," and is crate trained to rest in a standard crate overnight and while his family is at work. Ramen loves swimming, being hugged, and receiving scratches. In the care center Ramen presents with fear-based behaviors and heightened sensitivity to his environment. In the kennel, he has been observed trembling, stiff, and avoidant, often requiring coaxing to approach. While he is leashed with care, he shows signs of stress such as paw lifts, whale eyes, tucked tail, and hyper-vigilance, particularly in response to sudden or loud noises. Once outside, Ramen will cautiously explore and gradually relax, displaying a more neutral body and walking at a moderate pace alongside his handler. Ramen would benefit from placement with an experienced New hope partner who can provide a low-stress environment, opportunities for gradual confidence building, and ongoing support for his fearfulness.

Potential challenges: : Resource guarding,Handling/touch sensitivity,Fearful/potential for defensive aggression,Separation anxiety,On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration,Strength/leash pulling
Potential challenges comments:: Resource Guarding: Ramen considers toys, food, and treats to be high-value items and has shown guarding behaviors such as tense body posture, hovering, growling, and barking when these items are approached. Training should focus on desensitization and building positive associations with sharing resources. Please see the handout on Resource Guarding. Handling / Touch Sensitivity: Ramen is fearful when held or restrained, and may bark or growl if startled or disturbed while sleeping. He is particularly sensitive about having his paws touched and may snap in response. These behaviors suggest a need for low-stress handling techniques and gradual desensitization to touch. Please see the handout on Handling / Touch Sensitivity. Fearful Behavior / Potential for Defensive Aggression: In his previous home, Ramen would lunge, hard bark, growl, or hide when meeting strangers, but became friendly, playful, and tolerant once he warmed up. In care, he continues to display fearful behavior, avoiding handlers and reacting to loud noises. He may benefit from slow introductions, confidence-building exercises, and a predictable routine. Please see the handout on Fearful Behavior / Potential for Defensive Aggression Separation Anxiety: Ramen becomes anxious when left alone, indicating separation-related distress. Training should include gradual alone-time conditioning and enrichment to help him feel secure when separated from his people. Please see the handout on Separation Anxiety. On-Leash Reactivity / Barrier Frustration: Ramen is friendly and playful with familiar dogs, but reacts to unfamiliar dogs with avoidance, barking, growling, or lunging. He also displays reactivity on walks toward strangers, children, moving objects like bikes or skateboards, and small animals such as squirrels and birds. These behaviors suggest a need for structured socialization and desensitization to common triggers. Please see the handout on On-Leash Reactivity / Barrier Frustration Strength / Leash Pulling: Ramen pulls strongly on the leash during walks, indicating a need for leash training and impulse control exercises to improve walking manners. Please see the handout on Strength / Leash Pulling.
