Stormy
Hello, my name is Stormy. My animal id is #246043. I am a desexed male gray tabby cat at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 4 years 1 months old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 1/21/2026, with the surrender reason stated as animal behavior - aggressive to other animals.
Sorry, this pet is for new hope partners only.
Pre-Screener FormStormy is on the at-risk list due to behavior. He is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. He has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. Due to his stress levels, it is in his best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. He would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give him plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with helping a fearful cat adjust to strangers.
Let's get to know each other a bit more...

Details on my behavior are...
Behavior Condition: 5. Red
Upon intake Stormy was hissing, growling, and lunging at staff. Due to behavior staff was not able to scan for microchip, take picture, or collar.
KNOWN HISTORY:: Stormy was brought in with limited information on his behavior history in a home environment. There is a bite history. Stormy bit their owner when they went to walk past the him, he lunged forward scratching her one time in right leg drawing blood. Upon intake Stormy was hissing, growling, and lunging at staff.
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 1/28/26 FB61 At front of kennel, charging the door and swatting/slow-blinking hard with tilted ears when spoken to. When I start to place a toy through his kennel door he pauses to sniff it, ears shifting forward. I drop some treats into his kennel as well and he spends the remainder of the session playing with his puzzle-feeder and catnip toy! Will continue to try to help him build confidence through play therapy and positive association building. 2/02/26 FB61 Hunched in front of kennel, body and face tense with ears forward and tail wrapped tightly around body. He does not hiss today and he slow-blinks hard as I crouch down to speak to him. I reward him with treats (no petting today avoid creating a negative association) each time he slow-blinks upon approach and each time he does not hiss when the cubby door opens.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Moderate
VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Bold,Curious,Independent
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful,New home adjustment period
Potential challenges comments:: See relevant behavior flyers.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : New Hope Only
RECOMMENDATIONS:: Single-pet home,Adult only home
Recommendations comments:: The behavior team recommends Stormy go to a single-pet home, adult only home due to his bite and scratch history. Stormy has history of attacking the other resident cat in the home resulting in losing an eye.
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Stormy is at the front of the kennel As the kennel cover is lifted up, he strikes the glass twice and growls. Stormy softly hisses with airplane ears and dilated eyes. He watched carefully as a scratcher tool is extended to him with squeeze up. He then lunges and strikes at it. The assessor holds the tool still and Stormy approaches it again to sniff intently. He then watches as the assessor places a tray of the remaining squeeze up. The kennel door is closed, and Stormy strikes the glass again when the kennel cover is replaced. A few minutes later the assessor checks in on him and he has eaten the tray of squeeze up. Stormy is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and may require further investigation before placement in a home. He has tried to swat and scratch in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time. He may have a known history of behavioral issues that need to be addressed.
