Chase
Hello, my name is Chase. My animal id is #234865. I am a desexed male fawn dog at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 1 years 5 months 1 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 4/11/2026, with the surrender reason stated as animal behavior - too active.
Chase is on the at-risk list due to behavior concerns. In the care center, Chase a high level of kennel stress behaviors including repeatedly launching to the top of his kennel, springing off kennel walls, persistent jumping, heavy panting, and pulling so intensely on walks that he vomited multiple times. He has also shown fixation toward birds and small dogs while outside. Chase is social and affectionate with staff and volunteers, but struggling to acclimate. Medically, Chase is slightly underweight.

Let's brush up on some canine body language together! I'm ready to learn! I need a patient person who has the time to work on training with me. I would do best in a home with only adult humans. I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: Level 4
Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Recommend no dog parks
Recommendations comments:: No children (under 13): Due to Chase's high levels of anxiety, bite history, and lack of manners/impulse control we recommend an adult-only home. Recommend no dog parks: Due to Chase's behavior during playgroup, we recommend he does not visit dog parks.
Potential challenges: : House soiling,Basic manners/poor impulse control,Anxiety,Bite history (human)
Potential challenges comments:: House soiling: Chase is noted in the prior homes to use the bathroom outside and inside on weewee pads. He is reported to have accidents daily. Training should focus on a consistent potty schedule, rewarding outdoor elimination, and gradually phasing out pads. Supervision indoors and management strategies (e.g., crate training) will help prevent accidents. Please see the handout on House soiling. Basic manners/poor impulse control: Chase is noted to jump up often.Training should include reinforcing calm greetings, rewarding four-on-the-floor behavior, and practicing impulse-control cues like “sit” and “wait.” Consistency across handlers is key. Please see the handout on Basic manners/poor impulse control. Anxiety: Chase is noted to whine and display panting behavior. Incorporate calming techniques such as enrichment activities, decompression walks, and predictable routines. Pair exposure to mild triggers with positive reinforcement to build coping skills. Please see the handout on generalized anxiety. Bite History (human): Chase bit his previous adopter on the hand while jumping up to grab a ball from their hand. The bite did not break skin and was the only incident.
