Eloise
Hello, my name is Eloise . My animal id is #255390. I am a desexed male seal bicolor cat at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 4 years 3 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a stray on 5/26/2026.
Eloise is on the at risk list for medical reasons. Eloise has a fracture at the olecranon process of his right elbow. He has been persistently painful and lame on that limb since arrival, despite rest and pain meds. Eloise would benefit from a consultation with an orthopedic surgeon to discuss options for recovery. Behaviorally, Eloise can get overstimulated and did bite someone when they touched near his fractured elbow.

What my friends at ACC say about me: My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet! I have medical needs that staff will address with you when you meet me. I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe. Cheek and chin scratches make me so happy! I might need time to decompress in my new home - but cheek scratches and dry treats are my love language and how we will build our bond! Eloise appreciates attention and specifically head and cheek pets but appears somewhat fearful or stressed in the shelter. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that this cat go to an Adult-Only home with experienced cat parents. A volunteer writes: Eloise can stretch, he can twirl, he can ask for pets and he can see perfectly upside down. He can do almost anything now that he's healing and getting his confidence back. Seen limping on his own with a wound outside, Eloise was brought to us to help him get sorted and started on his next step. He introduced himself like he was in a rush to show me everything he knows how to do at the same time while simultaneously seeming bored with it. Eloise plays with just as much whimsy, stacking his toys between his paws while reaching for more. This doesn't quite sum him up, however, as Eloise knows there's more to life than his condo, just like he knows he can do almost anything. There's one pretty big thing he's missing and we think it just might be you.

Behavior Condition: 2. Blue
KNOWN HISTORY:: Eloise was brought in as a stray, there is no known information on his behavior history in a home environment. There is bite history, please see "Potential Challenges" for more information. Upon intake cat was calm and tolerant of all handling. Was easily collared, scanned for MC, picked up, held, and placed in den.
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 5/30/26 FB20 Eloise is on his shelf with his paws tucked underneath him, his pupils moderately dilated and forward ears. He is offered squeeze up that he sniffs gingerly. He is then offered crunchy treats that he sniffs. Finally he is offered a catnip mouse that he rubs his head on a few times! He then accepts a few gentle pets on his cheeks and then eats all of his squeeze up and crunchy treats. The handler gives him one more little pet on his head and leaves him to enjoy his offerings. Gentle boy. 6/2/26 FB06 Eloise inside his hidey box looking over the top with those big neutral blue eyes, and ears forward. I offer him my hand and he sniffs gently. He allows me to pet his head showing no emotion, but when I pet his cheeks, he leans in twisting his head around. I didn’t pet along his backside as he has an abscess and I can’t see where it is. Such a beautiful boy!! 6/04/26 FB25 He is lying inside his box with his head resting on the side. He has a relaxed body and forward ears. He rubs his head on the side of the box a few times, and I offer him my hand. He pushes his head into it, and give him head and cheek scratches. I offer him some treats but he doesn't seem interested. He is purring and twists around in his bed. He stays in place but continues soliciting pets on his head and rubbing gently on the box. 6/6/26 FB58 As I approach Eloise's cage, he is curled up in his box with a relaxed face and body and appears to be much more at ease than he was in the adoptions room. When spoken to, he lifts his head and begins to enthusiastically rub his cheeks along the edge of the box and begin to roll around on his sides and back in the box with joy. When I offer my hand, he leans into head and cheek pets with a soft face and eats the dry treats offered, but appears to enjoy rolling around in his bed even more! 6/5/26 FB20 Eloise seems to have perked up! He is sleeping in his bed, when the handler approaches he jumps out and stands at the front of the kennel, headbunting along the glass. He prances back and forth in the kennel soliciting attention. 6/11/26 FB25 Eloise gets up out of his box when I approach. He walks back and forth, rubbing along the wall. When I open the door, he presses his head into my hand, and then returns to his box. I pet his cheeks and offer him dry treats. He is purring and rolling around. His tail begins to flick and he does attempt to nip at my hand when I move slightly downward from his head, while still lying down. I'm able to move my hand away and he returns to rolling in the box and rubbing his head on the side. -GAN
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Mellow
VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Shy ,Calm,Sweet,Curious,Independent
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Overstimulation,Fearful,Uncomfortable with pick up,Other,New home adjustment period
Potential challenges comments:: During his assessment, Eloise was somewhat reserved and could not be coaxed to stand, step forward to approach the assessor, or come down off of the shelf. He remained in a slightly tense loafed position at the back corner of the shelf throughout the interaction but leaned into all head and cheek pets and ducked his head to solicit pets when a hand was offered. He also readily and enthusiastically ate every dry treat that was placed in front of him. He may be somewhat fearful but is willing to engage, just not willing to come out of his loaf at this time. When being examined by a veterinarian, Eloise was initially reserved but friendly and leaning into cheek scratches and purring. The vet slid her left hand down to his right shoulder to try to slowly turn patient for exam and patient immediately bit and released and hissed after the bite but retreated. Please note that Eloise was evaluated for a medical condition (mild fracture of right elbow) at the time of evaluation. This likely is contributing to that he is uncomfortable with pick up and/or reactive when being touched not on his own terms.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Level 3
RECOMMENDATIONS:: Adult only home
Recommendations comments:: Due to the behavior seen in shelter and needing a longer time to warm up, the behavior team feels Eloise would do best in an adult-only home where he would be able to acclimate in a calm environment. Adopters should be aware that he seems to prefer to be touched on his own terms and be informed about cat body language to ensure he is comfortable.
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: 5/29/26 On approach, Eloise is sitting curled up in a slightly tense loaf at the back corner of the shelf, with a slightly tense face - eyes wide, ears forward, tail wrapped around his body. He remains in place when the cage door is opened and as the assessor offers their hand. He accepts pets along his head and along his back, however when pet along his cheek for a moment, he softens and begins to lean in. He seems to particularly appreciate pets along his cheeks but otherwise doesn't necessarily relax or interact when pet in other places. When pet along his back, he will turn to look but seems to be turning to solicit pets on his head instead. Over the course of the interaction, the tip of his tail flicks at times but not significantly, and there is no escalation. When offered treats, he immediately leans forward to eat and very loudly and enthusiastically CRUNCHES on them - seeming to be capable of eating treats indefinitely. The assessor is unable to coax him into standing, stepping forward to receive more pets, come down from the shelf to the main area, or in general move out of his loafed position. However, he continues to appreciate head and cheek pets. Pick up is not attempted at this time, and he is given a nice box bed in the main area with catnip and a spray of feliway to see if that helps to encourage him to explore. 06/09/26 Upon approach, Eloise is sitting inside of his box on a blanket, which he seems to have made his daily spot. He remains in a relaxed position lying down, tilting his head up as the assessor pets his head. He rubs his head along the box and purrs, soliciting more pets. He remains lying down and is uninterested in the treats offered. He keeps his head tilted back, slow blinking at the assessor, keeping a loose body. When the assessor pets along his back, he sits up slightly and turns his head quickly to watch the hand, but allows it. He raises his rear into the touch and continues purring. His tail begins to flick with increasing speed as his lower body is touched. When the assessor moves back to his head only, his tail lays back flat. He is unwilling to leave his box at this time so pick up is not attempted. Eloise appreciates attention and specifically head and cheek pets but appears somewhat fearful or stressed in the shelter. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that this cat go to an Adult-Only home with experienced cat parents who understand he prefers contact on his own terms.
