Johnny Boy is at risk due to behavioral reasons. His previous owner describes him as a playful dog however he has been obsvered to show a high level of intense behavior while resource guarding. During his assessment Johnny B. was obsvered to rush towards the assess-a-hand, bite and hold it. He then remained tense and hovering over the toy. Medically, Johnny Boy has corneal scarring and is matted.

His previoues family reports Johnny Boy is playful, friendly, and outgoing with strangers, visitors, children, and other dogs (both on and off-leash). He has no history with cats. He is very social and loves affection, but also enjoys being a lazy "couch potato" at times. He is gentle and unbothered by being held, having his paws touched, or his collar grabbed. He loves his humans and will happily follow them from the living room to the kitchen and bedroom. He is a quiet boy who will only bark if someone knocks on the door. Johnny Boy's ideal home will offer him plenty of affection and a cozy spot on the couch, while also accommodating his playful side.

Once leashed handler places their hand down near the front of kennel away from Johnny, he approaches and sniffs it, after which he allows handler to begins petting his chest and back. He moves toward handler and allows them to scoop him up and out of kennel and walks with handler to the backyard for a dog/dog interaction. Once he sees the other dogs he begins squirming in handlers arms so he is gently placed down. Details on Johnny's dog/dog are available in his behavior assessment. After finishing his assessment, Johnny is eventually lifted and carried back inside and returned to his kennel. He allows gentle pets once more and once handler secures his door interaction is ended. 11/25/25: Johnny is at the front of his kennel with a loose body. The handler leashes and places him on the ground. On the street, Johnny walks ahead with no leash tension; he has slight interest in passersby, but no interest in dogs. Recommendations comments:: No children (under 13): Due to resource guarding we recommend a home with no children. Potential challenges: : Resource guarding,Anxiety

Potential challenges comments:: Resource Guarding: During the assessment Johnny Boy rushed towards the assess-a-hand, then bites and holds. He maintained a tense body and hovered over the toy in his possession. Nothing should ever be taken directly out of Johnny's mouth, and any time something is removed they should be rewarded with a high value treat or toy. Please see handout on Resource Guarding. Anxiety: During his assessment Johnny Boy was obsvered to be pacing, panting heavily, and whining throughout the assessment. If Johnny displays anxious behavior in their future home, we recommend puzzle toys, long walks, and giving them other things to focus on to alleviate their anxiety. Positive reinforcement, force-free training should be used. Please see handout on Generalized Anxiety.
