Animal Profile

Murdock

Hello, my name is Murdock. My animal id is #252269. I am a male black cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 12 years old.

I came into the shelter as a stray on 4/16/2026.

Murdock needs at risk placement for medical reasons. He is a sweet, blind senior cat with high blood pressure. He needs medication management by a local veterinarian indefinitely and a quiet home to enjoy his senior years.

This pet needs emergency placement. Please click here to go to our emergency placement page for more information. Murdock needs at risk placement for medical reasons. He is a sweet, blind senior cat with high blood pressure. He needs medication management by a local veterinarian indefinitely and a quiet home to enjoy his senior years. A volunteer writes: Murdock, like so many cats arriving at the care center was found in the lobby of an apartment building, most likely let go from his very home. He is a sweet and trusting cat I approached carefully as I knew he was blind. Gentle talks, a soft touch. Murdock likes that and he very slowly makes his move toward me for more petting. He neck bunts my hand, rubs his head against my fingers and purrs, all in slow motion. I like that he is trusting me and praise him for it. Murdock is a senior, all ebony, blind, underweight and suffering from hypertension(that we are treating). Once stable, sweet Murdock will need a quiet, caring and loving home with a person who is familiar with visually impaired pets. May be it could be with you? What my friends at ACC say about me: My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet! I have medical needs that staff will address with you when you meet me. I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe. Murdock is laying in the back of his kennel, body slightly tense as the assessor approaches. When he is softly spoken to, he turns his head slightly to look towards where the assessor is. Murdock allows all petting, leaning in when he is pet on the head and cheeks and raising his lower back when he is pet down his back and shoulders, beginning to knead his blanket. Due to medical condition full pickup is not attempted. He is tolerant of all petting and light, upward pressure under his chest with no issues, continuing to knead and gently lean into petting.

[Spay/Neuter Waiver - Age] It is the policy of ACC not to perform surgery on any animal over the age of 8-10 years due to the higher risks incurred in a shelter setting. The veterinarian is hereby issuing a permanent spay/neuter waiver, from the spay/neuter requirements of the City of NY due to the estimated age of this animal. ACC does recommend you consult with your veterinarian to determine if surgical sterilization is appropriate.
