Noche Luna
Hello, my name is Noche Luna . My animal id is #160335. I am a female black dog at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 3 years 11 months 1 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 6/14/2025, with the surrender reason stated as animal behavior - not house trained.
Sorry, this pet is for new hope partners only.
Pre-Screener FormNoche Luna is at risk due to behavioral reasons. Noche has been observed to be fearful during her stay in the care center. Observed to have a tense body, tucked tail, and whale eyes. She is also observed to bare teeth towards handlers if they initiate contact. Despite our best efforts to keep her comfortable in care Noche has been observed to be stressed in kennel. Noted to be vocalizing persistently, hypersalivating, panting heavily and biting and tugging the bars of her kennel door. Medically Noche is apparently healthy.

She was taken to the play yard and placed on a drag leash. Handler sprays the hose and she lightly bites at the water, chasing it slowly. Handler offers her treats but she shows no interest. Handler goes to sit on the bench, she puts her head in their lap, she allows them to scratch behind her ears. and she follows them. BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: New Hope Only
Recommendations:: No children (under 13)
Recommendations comments:: No children (under 13): Due to baring teeth and growling towards handlers we recommend an adult only home.
Potential challenges: : House soiling,Fearful/potential for defensive aggression,Anxiety
Potential challenges comments:: House Soiling: Noche's previous owner states that she will very rarely has very accidents in the home. We recommend positive reinforcement, reward-based training only. Accidents should never be punished as this will likely make the problem worse. Please see handout on House Soiling. Fearful Defensive: Noche's previous owner states that she is fearful when pushed off furniture. In care Noche has been observed to bare teeth and growl towards handlers. It is important to move slowly with Noche, to build positive associations (treats/toys/praise), and to allow them to initiate interactions with new people. They should never be forced to greet or to interact if they are not comfortable and soliciting attention. Please see handout on Fearful and Defensive Aggression. Anxiety: Noche's previous owner states that she is anxious in the home and will pace, whine, and is unable to settle. If Noche displays anxious behavior in their future home, we recommend puzzle toys, long walks, and giving them other things to focus on to alleviate their anxiety. Positive reinforcement, force-free training should be used. Please see handout on Generalized Anxiety.
