Let's get to know each other a bit more...

A volunteer writes: I love this guy!!! Dash is an absolute doll. He's so sweet and warm and friendly, seems to love people. He's puppyish so I thought he was younger. But, having said that, he is very responsive and manageable. Dash is an ideal size, not too big and not too small. He's perfect. We had a very pleasant walk, he's good on the leash. Dash is really fun to hang out with. Did I mention that I love him? Come to Manhattan ACC and see for yourself.

My medical notes are...

Behavior Asilomar: TM - Treatable-Manageable

Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Single-pet home,Recommend no dog parks,Place with a New Hope partner

Recommendations comments:: No children: Due to the behavior reported in the home by Dash's previous adopter, as well as the level of jumping up on handlers displayed at the care center, we recommend an adult-only home. Single pet/no dog parks: Due to some concern seen during initial introduction to the helper dog, a single dog residence is recommended until follow up can be conducted with an appropriate helper dog, or outside of a shelter setting. History around dogs is unknown. Place with a New Hope partner: Dash's previous adopter reported that out of nowhere, Dash began to run in circles, lean back, bare teeth and bark at her for a few minutes before he stopped and returned to acting normally. No further details are known as to what triggered this behavior and we cannot be sure if Dash will display this behavior in a new home. We recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based) and re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home.

Potential challenges comments:: House soiling: Dash is reported to be partially house trained. See handout on House soiling. Basic manners/poor impulse control: At the care center, Dash jumps up often on handlers in a social manner. See handout on Basic Manners. Other: Dash's previous adopter reported that out of nowhere, Dash began to run in circles, lean back, bare teeth and bark at her for a few minutes before he stopped and returned to acting normally. No further details are known as to what triggered this behavior, so we cannot be sure if Dash will display this behavior in a new home.
