Wolfy
Hello, my name is Wolfy. My animal id is #238559. I am a desexed male black cat at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 7 months old.
I came into the shelter as a returns on 11/2/2025.
Sorry, this pet is for new hope partners only.
Pre-Screener FormWolfy is on the at-risk list due to behavior. S/He is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. He has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. Due to her stress levels, it is in his/her best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. he would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give him plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with helping a fearful cat adjust to strangers.

I have potential behavior challenges that staff will address with you when you meet me.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 10/09/25 FB61 Hunched on top of kuranda bed, body and face tense with his tail curled around his feet. He hisses when I open the kennel door and he flattens his ears as I leave him a tray of squeeze-ups. He remains focused on me until I close the kennel door, then he begins to eat his treats. I slow-blink and speak to him softly before ending the session. Food motivated. Can also benefit from play therapy. 10/11/25 FB79 Little Wolfy is on his kuranda bed curled up asleep; he lifts his head when i open the kennel door and speak. He has no reaction to my words or the tool as he watches me with neutral eyes and forward ears but when slide a tray of tray he slowly leans in while not breaking eye contact with me. After a few moment of encouragement he starts to enjoy. Shyyyy boy needs time. 10/14/25 FB61 Hunched on top of kuranda bed, hissing continuously as I open the kennel door and talk to him softly. He does not eat his treats until I close the kennel door again, however as soon as it's closed he begins to eat his treaties while remaining focused on me. He is tolerant of petting as he eats while flinching and hissing. Needs more time - will continue to build positive associations! 10/17/25 FB79 Wolfy hissed when i opened the kennel door from the top of his kuranda bed, he is curled up with his tail tightly wrapped and lifts his head with wide eyes and forward ears. He has no interest in the treats that i offer or when i speak to him softly. When i use the tool he tenses up arching his back and hunching his shoulders followed by another hiss. 10/23/25 FB58 Laying on his kuranda bed, he tenses and hisses when he sees me, and does little hisses as the cage door is opened. I offer squeeze up out to him as he hisses and place some on the edge of the kuranda bed, which he leans forward to eat. I start to clicker train and mark each time he eats from the tube, eats squeeze up off my finger, dry treats from my palm, and finally takes treats from between my fingers. He gets to the point where he begins to consistently take treats from my fingers but remains wary, and raises his paw once when he gets a little overwhelmed but doesn't swat. 11/17/25 FB61 He's standing in front of his kennel as I approach, body and face tense, eyes bright and alert and tail raised. I open the door and attempt petting him with the scratcher tool but he zips and zooms all around his kennel to avoid touch while hissing and keeping his tail high in the air. I leave him some treats and he hops down to eat them immediately. I try petting him again to see if he would be more tolerant while eating but he continues to retreat rapidly. I slow-blink and speak to him softly through the closed kennel door as he finishes up his squeezies. GAN
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Moderate
VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Shy ,Curious,Timid,Skittish,Independent
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful,Kitten socialization,Other,New home adjustment period
Potential challenges comments:: *Previous Bite Incident* Previous adopter stated on 10/24 when he brought Wolfie home he opened the box and it startled Wolfie. Manuel closed the box and when he reopened he attempted to grab Wolfie out of the box with his right hand but Wolfie bit him on his right hand in between his thumb and pointer finger. It was a bite and release and he did not receive medical attention. Wolfie is a young and under socialized kitten that is past the ideal time for socialization- due to this and limited previous interactions with humans he requires consistent and substantial socialization work to attempt to get him to come around to interacting with humans.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : New Hope Only
RECOMMENDATIONS:: Adult only home
Recommendations comments:: Due to prior owner history (see separate notes) and a bite we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced cat parent home.
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: 10/8/25 Wolfy was hunched in the back of his kennel as the assessor approached, body and face tense with his tail wrapped around his body. Wolfy avoided eye contact when spoken to and he continuously hissed as the kennel door opened. Wolfy tolerated petting along his head and body while hissing again and again. He does not escalate further. 11/4/25 Wolfy was in the back of his kennel cubby when approached. At the sight of the assessor, he softly hisses and peers out into the room. When a scratcher tool is offered with squeeze up, Wolfy sniffs it before eagerly licking the squeeze up. Assessor places a tray of squeeze up and pets Wolfy on his cheeks while he eats. Wolfy tolerates the petting on his cheeks and does not react when tool pets him along his body. Wolfy pushes the squeeze up to the front of the cubby, closer to the assessor. He looks at the assessor with wide eyes. The assessor offers their hand and Wolfy backs up and softly hisses again. When the assessor puts more squeeze up into his tray, he resumes eating. Pick-up is not attempted at this time. 11/13/25 Upon meeting with Wolfie again, he is laying in the middle of the cage after playing with the toys offered to him. As the assessor approaches and moves to open the cage door, Wolfie hisses and quickly jumps up onto the shelf. When the assessor slowly offers out the scratcher tool and attempts to make contact - Wolfie hisses continually and evades all attempts to touch/pet with the tool. He appears as if he is about to flee and the interaction is ended. Pick up is not attempted due to his high level of FAS. Wolfie is a young and under socialized kitten and is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. He has tried to is extremely fearful in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
