Potential challenges: : House soiling,Resource guarding,Handling/touch sensitivity,Fearful/potential for defensive aggression,Bite history (human)
Potential challenges comments:: House soiling: Candy was noted to have accidents in the home, urination and defecation. A consistent potty schedule, supervised time, and reinforcing successful outdoor elimination would help improve reliability. Please see the handout on House soiling. Resource guarding: Candy will snap or attempt to bite around items she deems valuable such as toys, food, and/or treats (bones, rawhides, etc.)Training should focus on trade-up exercises, creating positive associations with people near her resources, and avoiding confrontational approaches. Please see the handout on Resource guarding. Fearful//potential for defensive aggression/Handling/touch sensitivity: When held/restrained and when her collar is grabbed/touched Candy is fearful. When disturbed while resting/sleeping, startled and when her paws are touched, she is not bothered. Candy snaps when pushed/pulled off the furniture. Training should emphasize choice-based handling, slow approaches, and desensitization to collar handling and movement cues to reduce fear and prevent escalation. Please see the handout on Fearful//potential for defensive aggression/Handling/touch sensitivity. Bite history (human): Candy was recently adopted and returned due to a bite incident in the home. The first incident was when the owner's spouse was holding a toy and hadn't given it to Candy yet. Candy grabbed it, but the spouse didn't let go and tried to take it back.
