Oliver
Hello, my name is Oliver. My animal id is #238451. I am a desexed male orange cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 7 years old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 10/5/2025, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- moving.
Oliver is on the at-risk list for medical reasons. Oliver is a cat with severe dental disease and diabetes melitus. Oliver is eating with a good appetite and he has recently started on insulin and so far has tolerated treatment...begrudgingly. It would be ideal for stabilizing his diabetes to be in a more quiet environment. When he is more stable, Oliver would also benefit from a dental cleaning.
Let's get to know each other a bit more...

What my friends at ACC say about me: Cheek and chin scratches make me so happy! I have been known to shower my favorite people in love! I am a cat that is in need of a lap! I can't wait to be your new lap cat. I am finding the shelter a little overwhelming, but when it's just you and me and some peace and quiet you'll see what a love bug I am. I am looking for a home with a patient person.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Level 2
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Oliver was lying down perched on top of the den with a neutral body and eyes upon approach. When spoken to and opening the door, he climbs down to greet the assessor at the front and sniffs treats offered. He welcomes petting on the head and leans in hard for cheek rubs. He raises his hips up and keeps his tail low when stroking his body. He softly stress meows when reaching around his body, gently pulling him out of the kennel, and taking a few steps out to explore. During pick up, he has a loose body but stress meows when held. After placing him back down, he hisses with wide eyes. He recovers fairly quickly and 5 seconds later, he welcomes more petting and cheek rubs. Oliver tolerates attention and petting but appears to be moderately fearful or stressed in the shelter. He will likely need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that he go to a home with some cat experience preferred or at least be well counseled in fearful cat behavior.
