Animal Profile

Pudding Cup

Hello, my name is Pudding Cup. My animal id is #236690. I am a male black dog at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 3 years 1 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a agency on 9/13/2025.

Pudding Cup is on the at-risk list due to medical concerns. Pudding cup is a friendly dog that was determined to have a high grade heart murmur, mild brachiocephalic airway syndrome, and shifting leg lameness on intake. Preliminary diagnostics indicate an enlarged heart, without clinical disease. Pudding cup would benefit from a rapid shelter exit so that his multiple conditions can be addressed by a full service veterinary clinic.

What my friends at ACC say about me: My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet! I have medical needs that staff will address with you when you meet me. I love to be loved, but on my own terms! Let's brush up on some canine body language together! I'm ready to learn! I need a patient person who has the time to work on training with me. I would do best in a home with only adult humans. I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe.

Spay/Neuter Waiver - Permanent Your newly adopted pet has been diagnosed with a heart murmur of 4/6 and the staff veterinarians are issuing a PERMANENT waiver from the spay/neuter requirements of the City of NY. ACC does not have the facility to safely sterilize your pet with his/her current condition. However, your veterinarian will provide consultation on whether this procedure can or should be performed under their supervision. Follow up care at your regular veterinarian is recommended to ensure continued treatment and proper oversight of your pet's health. All costs for follow up care and subsequent surgery is at the expense of the adopter.

Potential challenges: : Handling/touch sensitivity,Fearful,Anxiety,On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration,Strength/leash pulling

Potential challenges comments:: Fearful / Handling / Touch Sensitivity: Pudding Cup shows sensitivity to handling, particularly around all four legs, and has been noted to have medical lameness. His discomfort with touch suggests a need for gentle desensitization and cooperative care techniques to build trust and reduce stress during physical interactions. Please see the handout on decompression period and Handling / Touch Sensitivity. Anxiety: During his assessment, Pudding Cup displayed signs of anxiety, including heavy panting and pacing. Managing his anxiety will require a calm, predictable environment, regular enrichment activities, and stress-reducing tools such as puzzle toys and consistent exercise. Please refer to the handout on generalized anxiety. Strength / Leash Pulling / On-Leash Reactivity / Barrier Frustration: Pudding Cup exhibits dog reactivity both on leash and when passing dogs in kennels, often escalating to kennel fighting. Training should focus on improving leash manners, reducing arousal through structured walks, and using counter-conditioning to help him remain calm around other dogs. Please see the handout on Strength / Leash Pulling / On-Leash Reactivity / Barrier Frustration.
