Franny
Hello, my name is Franny. My animal id is #247975. I am a desexed female black cat at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 2 years 1 months old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 3/5/2026, with the surrender reason stated as animal behavior - not good with resident animals.
Frank is on the At Risk list due to behavior. She is not thriving in the care center and is deteriorating in the Adoptions room. She is now displaying signs of frustration and distance increasing behaviors. Due to her stress levels, it is in her best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. She would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give her plenty of time and space and who have experience with helping a fearful cat adjust to strangers.

What my friends at ACC say about me: I can go home today! I'm an independent kitty who likes to do my own thing. I am looking for a home with a patient person. I can be slow to adjust to new environments. I prefer to take things at my own pace. I will flourish in a calm environment and a low-traffic home. I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe. I'm sensitive and shy. I'll need extra help from you. I would do best in a home with only adult humans. A volunteer writes: Franny can be affectionate and playful when she's comfortable, so we've been doing our best to make the shelter as cozy as we can. Providing all the beds, snacks, and toys we can think of, it seems we've still come up just a tiny bit short. Part of it may be that there's always a lot going on in Adoptions, too much for Franny to really be able to take in and thoughtfully enjoy. In her previous home, Franny enjoyed watching from afar and entertaining herself with her toys. Sitting at the front of her condo, Franny seems to be doing the same as she tries to meet us halfway. Part of it may also be that Franny really likes to go and see and do, she just likes to do it all her own way. Franny's looking for a family who will let her take the lead and welcome her for who she is.

For a New Family to Know: She is described as a sweet and independent indoor cat who prefers contact on her own terms and watching from afar. She spends most of her time in the bedroom of her home where she enjoys chasing and pouncing on toys, playing rough, and scratching on vertical carboard surfaces. She can be pretty fearful and jumpy but is very affectionate once she feels comfortable. She primarily eats Iams dry food and her favorite treats are Temptations of chicken, liver, or beef flavor. She is accustomed to having access to an uncovered litterbox with clumping corn litter located in the bedroom of the home.

Behavior toward children: No experience. Behavior toward cats: No experience. Behavior toward dogs: Hisses, growls, and/or swats. Before Franny got spayed, she was very affectionate and friendly with the resident LMB. After being spayed, Franny started attacking client and her sister whenever their residential dogs got excited. The client keeps Franny in her bedroom separate from the dog, with a tall hallway gate that has a cat doorway at the bottom; however, Franny growls and swats at the dog when he approaches. (The dog is noted to be friendly and curious, wanting to play.) She then redirects her aggression towards the siblings. ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 3/13/26 FB61 Sitting upright in front of kennel, body and face tense with her ears forward and her tail curled around her feet. She leans forward to sniff my hand when offered, pupils dilated, and she tenses and backs away as I open the kennel door. She leans in for petting with the scratcher tool while pausing frequently to focus on the room behind me. Beginning to warm up! What a nice, round and curious girl. 3/14/26 FB79 With her paws under, her tail wrapped loosely and her eyes slightly wide; she sniffed the tool and tolerated pets on her head and cheeks followed by slightly leaning in for more after a few moments. However when I reached in to pet down and around her body she sat up with a tightly wrapped tail and wide eyes as she looked at my hand for further movement. I offered her some treats and left her a toy. 3/16/26 FB61 Sitting upright in cat bed, body and face tense with her ears forward and her tail curled tightly around her front paws. She made eye contact with dilated pupils when spoken to and she sniffs the treats and catnip toy offered while remaining focused on me. She tolerates petting along her head and body while remaining tense and also arching her shoulders, leaning in gently. She is unsure but appreciative of attention. She does not engage with the treats or catnip toy during or immediately after our session. 3/19/26 FB61 Sitting upright in cubby, body and face tense with her pupils dilated and her tail wrapped tightly around her feet. She vocalizes softly when I open her kennel door and she raises her paw and swats at the scratcher tool when I try to pet her. She is very upset today, she will not enter her main kennel space with the door open and when I try to open the cubby door she swats at it. She doesn't engage with the catnip toy or treats during our session, however she does watch the bubble show curiously.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Subdued
VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Shy ,Timid,Skittish,Independent
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Overstimulation,Rough play,Fearful,New home adjustment period
Potential challenges comments:: Franny is showing consistent signs of overstimulation at this time. Franny does not need socialization, these behaviors are likely to continue in a home environment and this is not an indication that Franny is under socialized. They are a very smart and curious cat who may be sensitive to hands-on stimuli. They will need plenty of playtime and mental stimulation in their new home. Previous owner states that Franny has been known to play rough. Please see behavior flyers for rough play, overstimulation and fearfulness.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Level 3
RECOMMENDATIONS:: Adult only home,No dogs
Recommendations comments:: Due to the behaviors seen in the previous home, the behavior team recommends Franny go to home with no dogs. Please see history for details. Due to the behavior seen in shelter and needing a longer time to warm up, the behavior team feels Franny would do best in an adult-only home where they would be able to acclimate in a calm environment.
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Upon approach, Franny was on top of the ledge, jumps down to the front as the assessor is unlocking the kennel. As the door opened, she crouched down at the back, her eyes are wide, ears are forward. As the scratcher was slowly offered, she gently sniffed. The assessor began petting on her head, her ears turned outward. Moving along Franny’s back she started to hiss. Moving back to Franny’s head, she continued to hiss, as she tucked into the corner and began lip licking. No pick up was attempted at this time. Franny tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. She may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
