Animal Profile

Tyrion Rexford

Hello, my name is Tyrion Rexford. My animal id is #255298. I am a male brown brindle dog at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 2 years 3 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a agency on 5/23/2026.

Tyrion Rexford is at risk due to behavioral reasons. Despite our best efforts at keeping him comfortable, Tyrion has begun to show signs of stress while in care. He has been observed to flip and pull the drain cover up and move it into the kennel. With handlers Tyrion has been observed to be highly social and affectionate. Noted to have a neutral body and soft wagging tail. During these interactions Tyrion has been known to escalated to mounting handlers and needing to be pulled off as he isn't easily redirected. Medically, Tyrion Rexford is currently healthy as he has recently recovered from CIRDC.

It is unknown if I have ever lived with other animals or children. I would do best in a home with only adult humans. I prefer to call the shots and enjoy coming to you when I'm ready for pets.

Summary (5):: 6/19/26: Tyrion Rexford is at the front of his kennel with a soft body, jumping on the kennel door. When the handler attempts to leash him, Tyrion bites the leash; they quickly remove it as he releases it. The handler lures Tyrion with a treat and leashes him; they toss treats on the ground, and as Tyrion exits the room, he eats them. While walking out the building, Tyrion pulls towards the crates, but the handler shortnes the leash. Once they get outside, Tyrion fixates on a large dog a couple feet away; the handler jogs Tyrion across the street and out of sight, but Tyrion continues to fixate on them. Once he stops, he looks at the handler with soft eyes, and allows pets from them. He then jumps and mounts them, until the handler pulls him off of them. tyrion walks with mild leash tension; he doesn't react to people. While returning to kennel, Tyrion pulls hard towards the room. the handler clips their leash and returns Tyrion to his kennel.

Summary (6):: 6/17/26: It was noted on the white board that Tyrion Rexford "gets aroused, jumpy and tried mounting" 6/15/26: While out in the yard Tyrion would mount the handler twice, he is straight armed away twice, as treats or squeakers didn't work to redirect his attention. 6/15/26: A staff member saw that Tyrion Rexford's drain cover had be pulled off and was sitting in the middle of their kennel. 6/12/26: It is reported on the behavior board that Tyrion is lifting the drain cover in kennel. 6/12/26: Tyrion is at front of kennel jumping and vocalizing as handler approaches. He is leashed using a treat lure after a couple of attempts. As he comes out of kennel he tries to pull to other kennels but handler keeps him on a very short leash and towards the wall and uses their body to block the other kennels as best as possible. Once out of the room Tyrion tries to also pull towards the crates in the hall with dogs. While on his street walk Tyrion stares at other dogs but handler uses a treat scatter for distraction. After his walk he is returned to kennel.

Summary (7):: 6/7/26: Tyrion Rexford was observed to flip the drain cover in his kennel. 6/6/26: Tyrion Rexford is at the front of the kennel barking and jumping up and down. He begins to chew on the kennel bars. Handler leashes Tyrion with a treat lure. Upon exit, Tyrion immediately pulls behind the handler and begins kennel fighting. He is pulling and snapping towards the passing kennel. Tyrion is kept away and taken out of the room. He is brought downstairs towards the street. Handler tosses treats and he chases after them. He then returns to fixating on passing dogs. Handler has to physically move him away from other dogs as he plants and refuses to move or redirect with treats. Tyrion relieves himself outside and as the handler is cleaning up after him, Tyrion fixates on a nearby dog. He lays down and hard stares towards the dog for awhile. Handler tries to redirect him with treats but he continues to pull back towards the dog. Tyrion is physically moved away and is walked back to the shelter. He begins to pull hard and fixate and freeze towards passing dogs. Tyrion is then brought back upstairs and he pulls hard to his kennel. He is then returned without issue. 5/28/26: Tyrion Rexford is at the front of his kennel with neutral body. Handler uses a treat lure and is able to put the leash on with ease. Tyrion is taken out for a street walk. On the way out he pulls hard in the hallways. As soon as he gets to the driveway he relieves himself. During the walk Tyrion continues pulling hard forward what causes him choking himself and panting. He is not interested in treats or toys and not engaging with handler. Tyrion is aloof but still allows petting and gently takes treats. When he sees another dog his body gets tense and hackles up; he pulls hard towards other dogs and handler is not able to redirect him with treats or squeaker so they have to just pull him away. On the way back in the hallways Tyrion pulls hard again; handler is still able to pre-clip the leash and bring Tyrion back to the kennel with no further issues. 5/25/26: It is reported that Tyrion is fixating on other dog in the yard and attempting to snap at them through the fence.

ENERGY LEVEL:: We have no history on Tyrion Rexford so we cannot be certain of their behavior in a home environment. However, they will need daily mental and physical activity to stay engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in addition to physical exercise, to positively direct their energy and enthusiasm.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: Level 3

Recommendations:: No children (under 13)

Recommendations comments:: No children (under 13): Due to on leash reactivity and mouthie behavior we recommend an adult only home.

Potential challenges: : Mouthiness/poor bite inhibition,On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration

Potential challenges comments:: Mouthiness: Tyrion is observed to mouth handlers on the arm with mild pressure. We recommend never playing with bare hands, always with a toy, and ending play or attention whenever Tyrion puts teeth on skin. They should be rewarded with attention and treats when they stop and/or when they are seeking attention in alternate ways. Please see handout on Mouthiness. On Leash Reactivity: Tyrion is noted to snap at other dogs while on leash. He is noted to become tense, plant, and pull towards dogs and people. Tyrion will need positive reinforcement, reward based training to teach them to look at you rather than dogs and other stimuli. We recommend a front clip harness to help manage this behavior. Please see handout on On Leash Reactivity and Barrier Frustration.
