Summary:: According to Coco's previous owner(s), Coco hard barks, lungs, and growls on leash. With familiar or unfamiliar dogs, information unknown. On/off leash are unknown. 10/20/25 Coco is introduced at the gate to a novel male dog while off leash at the care center. Coco will approach the gate with a tense body and a hard face. Coco tracks the male dog back and forth along the gate line maintaining her tense body. Coco is moved away from the gate before being returned to kennel.

Summary (6):: 10/20/25: Coco is out with an ACS for a walk when another behavior staff member takes her to the yard for playgroup. Once in the yard and on a drag leash, Coco approaches all of the handlers in the yard with a soft body. She leans into petting and will roll over onto her back as she presses herself into the handler's legs. When a consent check is done, Coco will continue to solicit belly rubs and petting from the handler. As soon as Coco realizes that there is another dog behind the gate, Coco will run up to the gate with her tail high over her back, a tense frame, and a short lip. (please see dog-dog for more information) Coco is returned to her kennel on the drag leash where she is unclipped and secured safely.

Coco is easily navigated out of the kennel room and taken to the yard. Coco in the yard is put on a drag leash, and explores the yard for a long while. Coco after exploring, will approach the handler, jump on them in a social manner and lean into petting. Coco will also offer sit cues and whine for treats. Coco will greet another staff member that approaches, rubbing against the bars to be pet through the gate grate. Coco is easily leashed and taken back to kennel with no issue. 10/08/25 (Assessment Note): Coco is standing at the front of her kennel, displaying a loose and wiggly body while play bowing and vocalizing toward the handler. She allows leashing with ease and is escorted to the assessment room. A drag leash is placed on her, and she allows all handling while maintaining a soft frame. She runs with the handler without becoming aroused. During the toy portion, Coco sniffs the toy and walks away. When the handler knocks on the door, she tilts her head and looks toward the sound but does not react further. Coco is returned to her kennel safely without issues. See behavioral assessment for more information. 9/4/25: Coco is laying down in her kennel as handler approaches. She comes forward to the front as the handler unlocks the door and is able to be leashed with ease. She is then taken to the behavior room for her assessment. Potential challenges: : Fearful/potential for defensive aggression,Separation anxiety,On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration,Low threshold for arousal,Bite history (human)

Potential challenges comments:: On-Leash Reactivity / Barrier Frustration: Coco has been observed to hard bark, lunge, and growl at various stimuli during walks, indicating on-leash reactivity and barrier frustration. These behaviors suggest heightened arousal and difficulty managing excitement or stress. Behavior modification through counterconditioning and desensitization, along with structured leash training, may help reduce reactivity. Please see the handout on On-Leash Reactivity / Barrier Frustration. Separation Anxiety: Coco displays signs of anxiety when left alone, which may include vocalizing, pacing, or other stress-related behaviors. A gradual desensitization to separation, combined with enrichment and a consistent routine, can help build independence and reduce anxiety. Please see the handout on Separation Anxiety. Fearful/potential for defensive aggression/Low threshold for arousal/Bite history (human):On 09/28/2025, the adoptive family was walking Coco in the park when she noticed two dogs walking towards her and began to lunge and hard bark at the other dogs.
