Croc is at risk for behavior reasons. Croc can become easily aroused. He lacks basic manners and impulse control. While out with staff he has made a habit of attempting to steal their treat pouches. When passing a staff member, he went to snatch her pouch and missed, biting her body and leaving bruising. Staff has to use caution with him to avoid another incident. We recommend he go to an experienced, adult only home. Medically, he is apparently healthy.

Croc has won the hearts of our staff with his sweet nature, but he's still working on developing his impulse control. His love for treats makes him highly trainable, although he has recently shown a tendency to try, and steal treat pouches straight from the staff! With consistent training and patience, Croc can learn to manage his enthusiasm. Croc would thrive best in a home without children under the age of 13. He has shown positive interactions with other dogs when introduced through a gate, suggesting that he could potentially be a good companion for another dog with proper introductions. If you're looking for a lovable, trainable dog who just needs a bit of guidance, Croc might be the perfect addition to your family. Come meet Croc and see if he's the right fit for your home!

Summary (2):: 06.22 A high-value treat is used during leashing as Croc begins to rope bite. When a staff member tries to give Croc the nylabone, he gets too excited and mouths their hand hard, so a treat is tossed to him instead. He is taken on a walk where he pulls moderately. He relieves himself and is taken back to his kennel. Croc is kept on a short rope due to pulling towards kennels but is easily distracted by a treat and goes into his kennel without issue. 06.21 Croc is brought out by handler and taken for a walk. He walks pulling mildly on leash sniffing around the ground. A member of the public passes Croc and pulls towards her on his hind legs and handler has to pull him away. He is returned to his kennel.

Summary (3):: 6.20- Croc was being walked out of the adoption room for his morning walk when another staff member entered the room. Croc immediately rushed towards the second staff member's treat pouch but was pulled away by the handler. While moving his back, he extended his neck and nipped the second staff member on the upper thigh, leaving red marks and bruising. 06.11 Croc is at the front of his kennel crying with round eyes and a wagging tail. He is easily leashed and passes kennels with a wagging tail and loose body. Croc is taken to the yard where he engages in fetch with a staff member. He playful bows at staff member and makes a grunting noises before getting zoomies with the ball in his mouth. He relieves himself and is leashed. Croc pulls slightly on his way back to his kennel. 06.09 Croc is at the front of his kennel tail, wagging and having high energy. He is easily leashed and brought to the yard. Once in the yard, he starts sniffing and walking around. A staff member picks a toy from the bucket, and Croc is instantly excited. Staff member proceeds to throw a toy for Croc to catch. This goes on for a few minutes, and Croc's tail constantly wags with high energy. He is then easily roped and brought out of the yard. The staff member proceeds to put Croc back in his kennel with ease. 06.02 Croc is at the front of his kennel with soft, round eyes and a high-wagging tail. He is easily leashed and trips over his water bucket, eagerly exiting the kennel. He's led into the yard, where he immediately relieves himself. He spends most of his time sniffing around and looking around curiously, his head tilted and ears perked. A staff member greets Croc from outside the yard, and he vocalizes once while wagging his tail. Croc approaches a staff member in the yard with a wiggly body and accepts pets on his head and body. He is easily leashed and placed back inside his kennel.

Summary (4):: 05.28 Croc is at the front of the kennel with small eyes, a lowered head, and cowering slightly. He is easily leashed and runs out of the room, staying towards the wall and away from barking dogs. Once in the yard, Croc relieves himself and walks around sniffing. He doesn't approach staff members, but when staff member approaches him, his tail wags, with a wiggly body, and allows pets to his head and body. He spends the majority of his time sitting by the gate. He is easily leashed and led back to his kennel without issue. 05.25 Croc was barking in front of his kennel. He jumped against the door and was leashed. He walked past neighboring dogs and was led out to the yard. A drop leash was attached, and he began to sniff around the yard. He approached the handler, who was sitting on the bench, becoming aroused and jumping on the handler's lap with his front paws and his mouth open. His leash was grabbed, and he redirected back to the floor. He walked around the yard and became relaxed. He was leashed and returned to his kennel.

Summary:: curious, very active while hugged, allowed all handling

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: Level 4

Recommendations:: No children (under 13)

Recommendations comments:: No children (under 13): Due to some arousal seen in the care center, we recommend a home with no children.

Potential challenges: : Basic manners/poor impulse control,Mouthiness/poor bite inhibition,Bite history (human),Social hyperarousal

Potential challenges comments:: Basic manners/poor impulse control: Croc lacks impulse control. He may become easily excited and jump up on handlers. He has been able to be redirected easily but can benefit from basic manners and impulse control training. Please see handout on Basic Manners and Impulse Control. Mouthiness/poor bite inhibition: Croc has jumped up and mouthed a staff member with no pressure. Croc should be provided with appropriate toys and if he puts his teeth on skin, interaction should be ended. Please see handout on Mouthiness. Social hyperarousal: Croc can become aroused during socialization. This is typically when we see that jumpy/mouthy behavior. We recommend keeping Croc engaged with calm training exercises. Over-arousal can tip into aggression. Please see handout on Arousal. Bite history (human): Croc has been deteriorating in care. He lacks impulse control and has become very grabby with staff's treat pouches. While passing a staff member, he jumped to grab her pouch and missed, making contact with her body. The bite left bruising. He will need training to control his impulses. We advise caution when wearing a treat pouch as he has associated these with food and will attempt to grab at them.
