Summary:: Due to entering the facility as a stray, there is no prior dog-to-dog history recorded. 8/5/26: Baloo is introduced to a novel intact male and approaches the fence with a loose body and mid level wags. She briefly disengages before bouncing back towards the fence and paws at the gate. She is let into the yard and is loose with butt hackles raised while face to face with the other dog. She engages in mutual sniffing and lifts her leg for the other dog to sniff. The other dog begins play bowing and spinning and she engages in reciprocal play, occasionally slapping him. She remains loose while play bowing and bumping the other dog. 07/06/26 Baloo is introduced to a novel female while off leash. She readily approaches the gate with a neutral frame and sniffs the female. She remains neutral as the female begins to bark at her and is easily guided away.

Summary (6):: 08/09/26: Baloo is laying on her bedding as the handler approaches. She is leashed with ease and brought outside. Throughout the building and outside, Baloo pulls hard. She is brought to the yard and clipped to a drag leash. She explores a bit, but then stands near the gate and waits for the handler. She is returned to her kennel with no issue. 8/6/26: Baloo was at front of kennel with a neutral body where she was easily leashed and pulled from kennel. She was taken for a backyard walk. Coming out kennel she pulled towards the other kennels and was vocalizing. She maintained a neutral body on walk and continued to pull hard. She was returned to kennel with no issue. 08/5/26(Dog to Dog): Baloo is standing at the front of her kennel and will allow the handler to leash her with ease. As she exits the kennel, she will redirect toward the handler and then attempt to kennel fight with the neighboring dog. She will then be brought to the play yard to meet a male playmate. Once inside the yard, a drag leash will be placed on her. Baloo will approach the greeting gate with a loose, wiggly body during the nose-to-nose greeting. Once the gate is opened, she will remain on leash while playfully pouncing around with her playmate. Once this session is concluded, Baloo will be brought back to her kennel safely without any issues. For more information, see Dog to Dog Assessment. 8/5/26: Baloo was reported to redirect onto a staff member when removing them from kennel as they were kennel fighting 07/31/26: Baloo is at the front of the kennel as the handler approaches. She is leashed with ease and brought outside to the play yard. She shows mild interest in a toy, but opts to stay near the handler for pets and treats. She does briefly explore on her own, again, returning to the handler. The handler attempts to lure Baloo up the A-Frame, but Baloo doesn't move past the first section. She takes treats gently. She is later returned to kennel without issue.

Summary (7):: 07/21/26: Baloo is at the front of the kennel as the handler approaches. She is leashed with ease and brought outside to the yard. In the yard, Baloo explores and stares at dogs walking by. She occasionally interacts with the handler, but remains somewhat aloof. She pulls hard while walking to and from the yard. After some time, she is returned to her kennel without issue. 7/19/26: Baloo is barking at the front of her kennel as handler approaches. She begins to jump at the door as the handler unlocks it and is able to be quickly leashed with ease. She then tries to pull hard towards the dogs in kennels with a tense body while on her hind legs on the way outside to the yard. In the yard, she is comfortable approaching the handler to receive pets. She has no interest in treats and would engage in chewing a toy before she starts to explore around with sniffing. She would stare at dogs that would pass by the pen and is able to be redirected with a squeaker. She pulls hard on the way back to her kennel and attempts to pull towards the dogs in kennels while on her hind legs before being placed into her kennel with no issues. 07/06/26 (PG): Baloo is laying down in her bedding as the handler approaches. She stands up, is leashed with ease, and is brought outside to the play yard. Outside, she is loose and wiggly with other handlers. She also has no reaction to several pigeons in the yard with her. After her interaction, she is brought back to her kennel. She pulls hard, but is returned without issue. 07/03/26: Baloo is at the front of her kennel when the handler approaches. She tries to push her way out of the kennel as the handler inserts the leash, but when she is not successful she allows the handler to leash her with ease. She pulls hard through the hallways and is brought to the office where she approaches other handlers with a loose and wiggly body. Baloo takes treats and responds to cues like "sit", "paw", "other paw", and "down". When returning to kennel, she enters, then pushes back out of the kennel. The handler tosses in treats, but Baloo stands outside of the kennel and refuses to move. Eventually the handler has to help her back into the kennel, where she continues to try to push out as the leash is removed. Once the door is shut, Baloo begins eating the treats on the kennel floor. 7/2/26: Baloo is observed not to want to go back into kennel, pancaking and trying to run out of kennel when being put back into kennel

Recommendations comments:: No children (under 13): Due to Baloo's fearfulness, we recommend she be placed in an adult-only home at this time. Place with a New Hope partner: We recommend that Baloo be placed with a New Hope partner due to her redirection attempts on handlers and kennel fighting.

Potential challenges comments:: Resource guarding: During Baloo behavioral assessment during the 1st pass she hover over the prompt toy and 2nd body block tense body. Continued management and training should focus on promoting relaxed behavior around valued resources and building positive associations with people nearby. Please see the handout on Resource guarding. Basic manners/poor impulse control: Baloo is noted to jump on handlers often. Training should focus on reinforcing calm greeting behaviors and teaching appropriate alternatives to jumping. Please see the handout on Basic manners/poor impulse control. Fearful: Baloo is observed to not want to go back into the kennel, pancaking and trying to run out of kennel when being put back into the kennel. Continued support should focus on creating positive kennel associations, using low-pressure handling techniques, and reinforcing voluntary movement into the kennel. On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration: When taken out og her kennel, Baloo attempted to redirect onto a handler before then attempting to kennel fight as she is led out of the room.
