Orca
Hello, my name is Orca. My animal id is #233877. I am a male white cat at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 7 years old.
I came into the shelter as a stray on 8/8/2025.
Orca is on the at-risk list for medical concerns. Orca has a significant anemia diagnosed at intake. He also had fleas and suspected flea dermatitis with an abnormal posture appreciated at intake. He will need follow up vet visits to monitor his anemia and ensure it is improving.
Let's get to know each other a bit more...

It is unknown if I have ever lived with other animals or children. I have medical needs that staff will address with you when you meet me. I am finding the shelter a little overwhelming, but when it's just you and me and some peace and quiet you'll see what a love bug I am. I am looking for a home with a patient person. I can be slow to adjust to new environments. I prefer to take things at my own pace. I will flourish in a calm environment and a low-traffic home.

Your newly adopted pet is Anemic and the staff veterinarians are issuing a TEMPORARY waiver from the spay/neuter requirements of the City of NY. Follow up care at your regular veterinarian is recommended to ensure continued treatment through to the resolution of the issue. At the time of a full recovery you may choose to have your veterinarian perform the spay/neuter surgery, or make provisions to return the pet to ACC for sterilization.

KNOWN HISTORY:: Orca was brought in as a stray, there is no known information on his behavior history in a home environment.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Mellow
VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Shy ,Calm,Timid
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful,Other,New home adjustment period
Potential challenges comments:: Please note that this cat is being treated for a medical condition at the time of evaluation. It is difficult to determine at this time how the medical condition may be affecting the behavior.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Level 2
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Orca was curled up at the back of the den with a neutral body and wide eyes. He ignores treats offered and allows petting on the head, but he leans back and flattens his ears. When receiving cheek rubs and stroking his body, he does not engage with the attention. When applying gentle upward pressure on his side and chest, lifting him up to the ceiling of the den, he tenses up and pushes against the assessor. After placing him back down, he continues to curl up and tolerate more petting and attention. Orca tolerates attention and petting but appears to be moderately fearful or stressed in the shelter. He will likely need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that he go to a home with some cat experience preferred or at least be well counseled in fearful cat behavior.
