Animal Profile

Bujulito (leeto)

Hello, my name is Bujulito (leeto). My animal id is #236596. I am a desexed female gray tabby cat at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 8 years 2 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 9/12/2025, with the surrender reason stated as not a fit - too many animals already.

Bujulito (leeto) is at risk list for medical reasons. Bujulito has had elevated liver values on bloodwork in shelter. They have been rechecked and remain high. He would benefit from additional diagnostics including an abdominal ultrasound with placement. Behaviorally, he is fearful and prefers not to be handled by medical staff.

Bujulito (leeto) is an adult cat that may not have had many interactions with humans from an early age. He is very apprehensive of people and while showing no aggressive behaviors, he does attempt to flee and avoid human contact. It is difficult to predict if he will respond to socialization but we recommend offering high value treats and food to help build a positive association to humans. Please be mindful that older cats will require more time and skill in order for them to be comfortable around people. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 9/17/25 FB61 Leeto was lying in her cubby as I approached, body low and face tense. Her face was partially hidden behind her litter box and she remained frozen in place when offered treats and a catnip toy. After I closed the kennel door she retreated into her hidey box. She is tolerant of petting but is very nervous. Needs more time.  9/20/25 FB58 Sitting on the shelf at the back with a slightly tense face and body, ears slightly tilted. She tenses when the tool is offered out but settles slightly. She is tolerant of some pets on her head and cheeks with her tail wrapped around her feet. 9/22/25 FB61 Lying in box upon approach, completely covered by her linens. When I lift her blanket I see that Leeto's face is tense and her ears are tilted. She is tolerant of forehead pets while slow-blinking hard and remaining otherwise frozen. I cover her with her towel when I'm done with the session and I leave her some treats and a catnip toy which she does not show immediate interest in. Nervous girl - hopefully she explores the offerings later when she feels more save. She is a gentle soul. 9/27/25 FB20 Leeto is covered behind a towel. Towel is pushed down slowly and reveals her little face. Her eyes are dilated and ears tilted. She sniffs at tool with treats. She allows petting on her chin, her skin ripples when pet along back. Another treat is given and interaction ended. 9/30/25 FB06 Bujulito is perched at the top of the condo. I opened the food slot and began talking softly to her. Her ears were forward with soft eyes and tail tucked tightly around her body. I placed some treats near her but she showed no interest. Opening the condo door she stayed still, keeping her eyes on me. I gave her some pets on the head with the scratcher tool with no reaction. When I proceeded along her body she started to slightly trmble. Interaction was then ended.

POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Inappropriate elimination,Fearful,Other

Potential challenges comments:: Bujulito (leeto) came from a home with about Bujulito (leeto) other cats, it is likely that she was not appropriately socialized to humans. Bujulito (leeto) may warm up to her new home faster if there is already a resident cat. Bujulito (leeto) was reported to defecate outside the litterbox when upset by other cats. The boxes were shared with 14 other cats and were located in a quiet and easily accessible area of the home. The client reportedly did not attempt to modify the behavior. As Bujulito (leeto) adjusted to the shelter environment, her litterbox habits were tracked for a two week period. After that time, it appears that she has consistently been showing signs of inappropriate elimination. While she does appear to use the litterbox, she also eliminates outside of the box and on her linens. Adopters should be prepared to take on this challenge and be counseled on behavior modification for inappropriate elimination.
