Calindo
Hello, my name is Calindo. My animal id is #223942. I am a male black dog at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 7 years 2 months old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 6/3/2025, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- owner elderly.
Calindo is at risk due to medical reasons. Calindo is a senior dog with a history of seizures. Calindo is currently receiving anti-seizure medication and will need to continue this once placed. Unfortunately we cannot effectively manage seizure conditions in the shelter setting. He has been nervous in the shelter and is tolerant of all handling.
Let's get to know each other a bit more...

Calindo came to MACC via owner surrender due to his previous owner being unable to continue caring for his on-going medical needs. His previous owner describes him as a social and affectionate guy who loves hanging out with his people. He would make a great travel buddy - as he absolutely loves car rides! He also likes water/getting bathed. His favorite toys are soft and plushy ones he can throw around or just lay on. Come meet this sweet boy today!

ENERGY LEVEL:: We have no history on Calindo so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. However, he will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: Level 2
Recommendations:: No young children (under 5)
Recommendations comments:: No young children (Under 5): Due to Calindo's need for contact on his own terms we recommend a home with no small children.
Potential challenges: : Fearful,Separation anxiety
Potential challenges comments:: Fearful: During his medical exams Calindo was reported to be tense and avoidant of staff. It is important to always go slow and give Calindo the option to walk away from any social interaction. Calindo should never be forced to approach anything that he is uncomfortable with or to submit to petting or handling. It should always be Calindo’s choice to approach a new person or thing. Calindo would do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment and should be given time to acclimate to his new surroundings. Please see handout on Decompression Period. Separation Anxiety: Calindo's former owners report that he has seperation anxiety, he whines and paces and cannot settle when left alone. If Calindo displays anxious behavior in his future home, we recommend puzzle toys, long walks, and giving him other things to focus on to alleviate his anxiety. Positive reinforcement, force-free training only should be used. Please see handout on Generalized Anxiety.
