Let's get to know each other a bit more...

This pet needs emergency placement. Please click here to go to our emergency placement page for more information. Smokey has been placed on the at-risk list for medical reasons. He has a significant heart murmur. He needs care and attention that we cannot provide. A volunteer writes: I "fell" for Smokey the moment I laid eyes on him. He had a "lost" but sweet face and he clearly indicated that he wanted to make friends even that he never completely exited his den during our encounter. He leaned gently for pets, came half way out of his hiding place and looked at me with pleading eyes. Poor Smokey did not "get" this terrible turn of event.. He had a home and a family just yesterday. His owners did not even put a good word for him...An unknown little soldier...It must be hard to relinquish a pet one has for many years and words can not be found...May be...And now, the veterinary team discovered that he had a heart murmur and an abnormal heart test(proBNP) indicating cardiac disease that will have to be addressed by an outside cardiologist. When it rains, it pours...Smokey seems to be like a good guy to me. He did quite well on his behavior evaluation that just showed that he did not feel quite at his place. Smokey needs help, your help.. So please, consider him and give him the chance to live happy and healthier with a new family.

Details on my behavior are...

Behavior Condition: 2. Blue

KNOWN HISTORY:: Smokey was brought in with limited information on his behavior history in a home environment.

ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Mellow

VOCAL:: Quiet

CHARACTER TYPE: : Shy ,Sweet,Easy going,Curious

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Level 2

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Smokey was resting inside the den upon approach, alert with wide eyes scanning the room and ears erect and forward. He allowed petting and repeatedly head-bunted the assessor's hand throughout the assessment. He ignored offered treats. During pick-up, he was tense but continued to tolerate attention once settled back down. Smokey tolerates attention and petting but appears to be moderately fearful or stressed in the shelter. He will likely need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that he go to a home with some cat experience preferred or at least be well counseled in fearful cat behavior.
