Details on my behavior are...

Behavior Condition: 3. Yellow

Date of intake:: 9/24/2026

Means of surrender (length of time in previous home):: Stray; history unknown

Date of assessment:: 9/26/2026

Summary:: 09/26/26: Peach farmer is taken to the behavioral office for a handling assessment, in the office he allow the handler to collar him but remains tense offer treats offered to him. Peach farmer begins to whine and pace in the office and will begin to bite his drag lead. When attempts are made to pet him he will begin to head whip and begins to pull and vocalize towards the helper, due to being unable to focus and settle a handling assessment will not be conducted at this time.

Summary:: Due to entering the facility as a stray, there is no prior dog-to-dog history recorded. 10/8/26: Peach Farmer is introduced to a novel intact female and is loose and wiggly at the fence with mid-high level wags. He sniffs nose to nose through the fence and gives a few whines, remaining wiggly. The meet is kept to the fence due to his medical and he is able to redirect his attention without issue, engaging with handlers.

Summary (5):: 10/7/26: Canine Behavior was begun giving Peach Farmer their AM meds. 10/6/26 - Peach Farmer is at the front of his kennel as handler approaches he is excited and jumping at kennel door, handler places treats in front of kennel for him to focus on while handler leashes, handler is able to leash him easily. He comes out quickly eating the treats and exits but does try pull to the kennel doors as he passes by, once outside of the hall he isn't reactive to any dogs in crates nor staff but does try and bite the leash, handler tosses treats in which he is responsive to them and handler is able to continue walking with him outside. Outside he pulls moderately, handler engages him with verbal cues like "touch," "take a breathe," and "sit," as well as treating him while he walks beside the handler, he is responsive to the treats and verbal cues but at one point begins to leash bite out of frustration and becomes a pattern where he leash bites and when handler stops he sits patiently for a treats. Handler instead makes him do another verbal cue to not create a habit with him where he leash bites in order to get treats, handler then brings out a ball where he carries it for the remainder of the walk and it helps significantly with his pulling and stops his leash biting, carrying the toy does make him visibly less tense and handler notes his body is more loose and he checks in a lot with handler during the walk after this. The rest of the walk occurs fine with no issues and unleashing and returning him to kennel happens with ease.

Summary (6):: 10/5/26 - (PM) Peach Farmer is at the front of his kennel as handler approaches, he is excited and jumping up at kennel door, handler leashes him, he does attempt to bite at the leash once or twice but handler tosses treats giving the opportunity to leash him and exit. He leash bites a bit on the way out of the building, handler tosses treats and each time he is easily redirected. When outside, handler practices heel and sitting with him, tossing treats as he walks beside the handler and rewarding which in result helps a lot with his leash biting and jumping on the handler, he proceeds to check in with handler loose leash walking beside them only pulling mildly at times. Handler has him sit beside him in a heel as people pass and he doesn't react or jump to any near people or dogs, if a dog is near he looks at them but is quickly redirected. When returning to kennel has had no issues returning and unleashing. 10/05/26: Peach Farmer is at the front of his kennel as handler approaches, he is exuberant and jumps at the kennel door and attempts to bite the door lock as it is placed on the door. He is leashed and frantically pushes out of kennel toward the dogs he passes. He has difficulty settling and walks with handler pulling hard to the street for his walk. Outside he pants heavily and walks with handler, he pulls toward spots to sniff and after walking for a while he is brought back inside, he allows handler to clip his leash and walks with handler back to kennel pulling again toward the passing dogs. 10/4/26 -Peach Farmer is at the front of kennel with neutral body, handler is able to easily leash and pull from kennel, was not reactive to any dogs or people while exiting the building but did however jump up at the handler biting the leash, handler tosses treats in which he is redirected easily. Outside Peach Farmer is pulling moderately, handler uses treats to work on cues like "sit," "take a breathe," and "heel," he responds well. He does jump a few more times during the walk to mouth at the leash, handler is able to redirect him each time with treats, when returning to kennel he had no issues and was easy to unleash. 10/3/26: Peach Farmer was at front of kennel with a neutral body where he was easily leashed and pulled from kennel. Coming out of kennel Peach Farmer started to jump up at handler while eyeing the leash and once jumped toward the leash. While walking Peach Farmer would turn and look at handler numerous times, sometimes turning his body towards handler and a couple of times jumping towards handler. After his walk he was returned to his kennel with no issue.

Peach Farmer is easily leashed and exits the kennel with strong pulling toward the exit. He shows no reaction to other dogs or staff members in the hallways. Once outside, Peach Farmer moves at a quick pace and frequently pulls from side to side to investigate certain areas and relieves himself. He continues walking with mild leash tension ahead of the handler. He is responsive with handler and looks back at them for check-ins. Peach Farmer maintains an open-mouth pant due to pulling and displays wide eyes. He gently takes treats and follows cue "sit" but quickly disengages every time and get his attention back to sniffing his surroundings. Peach Farmer shows no reaction to any stimuli during the walk. Upon return handler clips the leash and brings Peach Farmer back into his kennel with no further issues. 9/30/26 (PM): Peach Farmer is at the front of his kennel with a soft body; the handler feeds him treats, which he takes slowly and softly. The handler brings him out, and as he looks at the kennels, the handler drops treats on floor; Peach eats the treats as they exit the room. Once they are outside, Peach notices a dog and presents a forward body, but disengages when the handler pulls him away. Peach walks with mild leash tension and no reactivity to people; he sees other dogs with a forward body, and disengages with leash pressure. The handler gives Peach treats which he takes slowly or doesn't catch in time. Upon entry, the handler clips their leash and walks Peach into the room; he eats some food and then looks at the kennels, but enters his own with ease. 9/30/26: Peach Farmer is reported to kennel fight when the handler walks him out the room; as the handler pulls him away from the kennels, Peach turns towards them and jumps up at them. As they are out the room, Peach jumps up at the handler; he does it once more as they're in the backyard. 9/26/2026 - Upon approaching kennel was avoidant of leashing by backing away in kennel but was able to get lead over head slowly, did a body shake off once exited kennel. He did not react to any dogs or barriers when exiting the building for assessment walk. During the walk pulled hard and constantly looking back at the handler and the leash, was not reactive to anything on the walk and kept pulling forward to sniff, did flinch a lot with leash movement or movement near the left eye where vision is visibly obstructed due to injury. After walk was taken to the assessment room (please see assessment notes for more information). When returning to kennel he entered with ease and no problems.

Potential challenges: : Resource guarding,Handling/touch sensitivity,Anxiety,On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration,Leash-biting

Potential challenges comments:: Resource guarding: Peach farmer is noted to become tense when treats are given to him and will hover over the treats. Continued management and training should focus on building positive associations with people near valued resources and reinforcing relaxed behavior around food. Please see the handout on Resource guarding. Handling/touch sensitivity: Peach farmer is noted during his medical exam to be Friendly, soliciting attention, started growling when looking at face, tense body, whines for attention. Continued work should focus on slow, positive handling exercises and respecting his comfort level during interactions. Please see the handout on Handling/touch sensitivity. Anxiety: In the behavior office Peach farmer is noted to pace and whine. Providing predictable routines, enrichment opportunities, and low-pressure interactions may help reduce his stress and improve his ability to relax. Please see the handout on generalized anxiety. On Leash Reactivity: Peach has been observed to kennel fight while in the kennel room. When the handler pulls him away, Peach turns towards the handler and jumps at them. Peach will need positive reinforcement, reward based training to teach them to look at you rather than other dogs. We recommend a front clip harness to help manage this behavior. Please see handout on On Leash Reactivity and Barrier Frustration. Leash-biting: Peach farmer is noted to leash bite. Continued training should focus on reinforcing calm leash behavior, increasing engagement with the handler, and redirecting him to appropriate alternative behaviors during walks and transitions. Please see the handout on leash biting.
