Details on my behavior are...

Behavior Condition: 2. Blue

Date of intake:: 10/23/2025

Means of surrender (length of time in previous home):: Stray(Limited History)

Date of assessment:: 10/26/2025

Summary:: 10/26/25: Due to Angelina's fearfulness in care, a handling assessment will not be conducted at this time.

Summary:: Due to entering the facility as a stray, there is no prior dog-to-dog history recorded. 10/26/25 Angelina is introduced at the gate to a male helper dog while off leash at the care center. Angelina doesn't approach the gate, panting heavily while pacing around the pen. As she walks past the gate line, she displays look aways, ignoring the male dog. She proceeds to seek out an exit before being returned to kennel, concluding the interaction.

Summary (5):: 11/8/25: Angelina is siting in her kennel as handler approaches. She begins to bark and vocalize high pitched while the handler unlocks the door and leashes her. She then pulls on the way to the live room. In the room, she would pace around with heavy panting and whimpering. She would take a few treats and then has no interest in them after a while. She begins to seek exit by approaching and sitting as she stares at the door while whimpering. She then pulls hard with heavy panting back to her kennel and would head hip when the handler goes to clip their leash. She leaps into her kennel with no issues.

Summary (6):: 11/7/25: Acs reported that they had Angelina out for her pm walk, she stopped walking and began growling and becoming tense at the handler, they stated no people or dogs were outside. Angelina continued to stare at the handler and growl, the handler tried to distract her with treats which she ignored. They said Angelina began to vocalize and make an arousal-type scream, so they quickly brought her back inside. 11/5/25: Angelina is standing at the front of her kennel as the handler approaches. She shakes off and gets closer to the door as the handler removes the blanket that is covering the kennel and open the door. She is leashed with ease and walks to the behavior office on a loose leash. Once in the office, she is clipped to a drag leash. She visits another familiar handler and stands next to them, drooling as they have food on their desk. She will eventually walk over to the handler with a loose body with a lowered head and ears flat to her head and solicit chin scratches from them. She will also jump up on their lap, pulling all of her weight on her chest and laving her front legs dangling. Angelina is eventually returned to her kennel on her drag leash and unclipped. She is secured safely.

Summary (7):: 11/04/25: Angelina is sitting in the middle of kennel with a neutral frame as handler approaches. She is leashed with ease and begins to pant heavily as she exits kennel. Angelina pulls moderately to the Canine Behavior Office where she is clipped to a drag lead and free to explore the space. Angelina is social with handler throughout her time in the room and will climb up onto their lap to solicit attention. She paces the room intermittently and will pant heavily but does reapproach handler multiple times to solicit attention. After her session, Angelina is leashed with ease and returns to kennel safely. 11/3/25: Angelina is siting in her kennel as handler approaches. She begins to whimper and vocalize with a tense body as the handler unlocks the door. She is able to be leashed with ease and she pulls hard to the behavior room. In the room, she has a tense body and low tail as she tries to slowly approach the handler for treats. She would take the treats roughly and back away afterwards. She pulls hard on the way back to her kennel and quickly leaps in with no issue. 11/01/25: ACS staff report that Angelina is head whipping and snapping while being brought back to kennel. - 10/29/25: Angelina is noted to leash bite when coming out of the kennel and during her walks. 10/25/25: Angelina is pacing around her kennel as the handler approaches. When the door is being opened, Angelina begins to push her head against the door as she is leashed. Angelina then exits the kennel quickly and pulls moderately to the behavior office where she is avoidant of handlers, keeping her distance from them with her eyes wide and brow furrowed. Her assessment is postponed and she is returned to her kennel where she is secured safely. 10/23/25: Angelina is approached in kennel and is whining, pawing at the door and barking at the handler when approached. Angelina has raised hackles along her back and base of tail, and is reluctant of being leashed. Angelina is eventually leashed with the handler coaxing her with high values and is brought to the behavior office, where she tenses hard when touched, avoids interaction and paces around the room. Due to her FAS, she is placed back into kennel.

ENERGY LEVEL:: We have no history on Angelina so we cannot be certain of their behavior in a home environment. However, they will need daily mental and physical activity to stay engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct their energy and enthusiasm.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: New Hope Only

Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Place with a New Hope partner

Recommendations comments:: No children (under 13): Due to Angelina's fearfulness, we recommend they got to an adult-only home. Place with a New Hope partner: Due to Angelina's fearfulness, we recommend she is placed with one of our New Hope Partners.

Potential challenges: : Fearful,Anxiety,Leash-biting

Potential challenges comments:: Fearful/Anxiety: Angelina has been intensely fearful in the care center, shutting down and holding as still as possible. It is important to always go slow and give her the option to walk away from any social interaction. Angelina should never be forced to approach anything that she is uncomfortable with or to submit to petting or handling. It should always be her choice to approach a new person or thing. Angelina would do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment and should be given time to acclimate to her new surroundings. See handout on Decompression Period. leash biting: Angelina is noted to leash bite when coming out of the kennel and during her walks.Training should focus on arousal-reduction strategies, including structured walks, redirection with appropriate toys, and reinforcing calm behavior. Incorporating impulse control exercises and consistent handling routines will help reduce leash-related frustration and improve focus. Please see the handout on leash biting.
