Details on my behavior are...
Behavior Condition: 4. Orange
Upon intake, Storm was very friendly and outgoing with staff. She had a loose, relaxed body, open, relaxed mouth, and would perk her ears and wag her tail as staff approached her. She was very treat motivated, but took treats hard from handler's hand. Handler elected to throw treats, which she caught in mid air. She sat on cue and demand barked for treats if handler did not reward her. She allowed handler to scan for a mc with ease when distracted with treats; mc positive. Due to DOH status and potential for dog reactivity, Storm was double leashed for safety. Storm was initially hesitant to walk while double leashed and pancaked and head whipped briefly when handlers began to walk her down the hallway, but after a moment to recover and some gentle pressure on the lead leash, she began walking again. She allowed for one leash to be clipped with ease, but was slightly anxious when handlers attempted to clip the second leash - handlers did not clip the second leash. Storm was brought to her kennel and went in without issue. The unclipped leash was removed with a hook with ease while Storm was distracted with treats.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: New Hope Only
Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Single-pet home,Recommend no dog parks,Place with a New Hope partner
Recommendations comments:: No children (under 13): Due to Snoh escalating to snapping and her bite history with other dogs, Storm should go to a home with older behavior savvy children. Single-pet home/Recommend no dog parks: While Snoh is noted to be social with dogs, she recently charged and bit another dogs when she slipped out of her collar. Due to her escalation, she shouldn't go to a home with other dogs or visit dog parks. Place with a New Hope partner: Due to all noted concerns displayed in a home environment, the behavior department recommends Storm be placed with a New Hope placement partner who is able to provide an experienced adult-only foster home. A period of decompression is recommended to allow Storm to acclimate comfortably to her new environment; force-free, reward based training only is advised when introducing Storm to new and unfamiliar situations.
Potential challenges: : Resource guarding,Mouthiness/poor bite inhibition,Handling/touch sensitivity,On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration,Strength/leash pulling,Bite history (dog)
Potential challenges comments:: Resource Guarding: Snoh FKA Storm has been observed to become tense, hover, growl, and vocalises with a toy in her possession. Nothing should ever be taken directly from Snoh, and any time something is removed they should be rewarded with a high value treat or toy. Please see handout on Resource Guarding. Mouthiness/poor bite inhibition: During her intake, Snoh grabbed treats with hard pressure. Using positive reinforcement, she should learn impulse control. Please see the handout on Mouthiness/poor bite inhibition. Handling/touch sensitivity: During her exam, Snoh snapped and hard stare. Positive reinforcement should be utilized to help Storm feel comfortable with handling. Please see the handout on Handling/touch sensitivity. Bite history (dog): Snoh bit and held onto another dog when she slipped out of her leash. Please see the handout on Bite History. On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration: Snoh was reported by her owner to hard bark, snap and lunge at certain dogs. Positive reinforcement should be utilized to help Snoh associate all dogs with things she likes such as treats and toys. Please see the handout on On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration. Strength/leash pulling: Snoh is noted to pull hard on leash. She should be fitted with a front clip harness to alleviate her strength. Please see the handout on Leash Manners.
