Upon intake Applejax was in a crate with the officers inside of their vehicle. When counselors approached the vehicle Applejax was hard barking, growling and barring teeth at counselors. Counselors offered treats to Applejax which she readily accepted; which helped calm down her fearfulness. Applejax slowly opened up to counselors. Counselors were able to leash her through the crate and bring her out without any concerns. She was then vaccinated by medical and walked into her kennel without any assistance. Counselors were unable to collar due to behavior upon intake but were able to scan for microchip.

Date of Intake: 7/28/2026

Date of intake:: 7/28/2026

Means of surrender (length of time in previous home):: Stray(Unknown History )

Date of assessment:: 8/2/2026

Summary:: Due to Apple Bloom fearfuless, a handling assessment will not be condcuted at this time.

Summary:: Due to entering the facility as a stray, there is no prior dog-to-dog history recorded. 8/5/26: Apple Bloom is introduced to a novel intact male and approaches the fence with a tense body and low partially tucked tail. Her hackles were raised and she begins to displacement sniff nearby the fence and explores the yard briefly. After a couple of minutes, Apple Bloom reapproaches the fence with high wags and an open panting mouth. She is let into the yard and sniffs the turf, not approaching the other dog. She lifts her paw at a distance before continuing to walk around the yard. The other dog approaches and she engages in mutual sniffing with high wags and a soft face/body, then disengages and continues sniffing. The other dog follows her around the yard occasionally play bowing and she is tolerant and does some displacement toe taps while increasing distance. She continues to avoid the other dog and the meet is ended to reduce FAS.

Summary (7):: 08/14/26: Apple Bloom is at the front of her kennel as the handler approaches. She is leashed with ease and brought to the office. In the office, she explores. She spends the majority of her time interacting with a snuffle mat, but will come over to the handler and lean in for pets periodically. She is later returned to her kennel without issue. 8/5/26 (playgroup): Apple Bloom is at the front of the kennel as the handler approaches. She is leashed with ease and will exit the kennel quickly, pulling mildly to the play yard where her collar is clipped with a drag leash. Once the interaction is over, she is returned to kennel where she is secured safely. (See dog-dog for more information) 7/31/26: Apple Bloom was at the back of her kennel when handler approached. She came forward slowly as handler leaned down after unlocking the door. Her face was relaxed and body loose as she was leashed with a treat lure. She came out and did not pull on way to the training room. Once she was in the training room she worked on a snuffle mat and took treats readily. She was returned to kennel with no issue. 7/29: Apple Bloom was standing at the front of his kennel when a handler approached. He began hard barking and growling as the handler unlocked the kennel door. The hadnler offers treats, and he begins to eat them selectively. The handler attempts to feed him treats during leashing, but he sharply dodges the lead, growling. He does go back to eating the treats, and the handler makes a treats scatter. As he eats, the handler is able to successfully leash him. Once Apple Bloom sees the door is open, he slowly but readily exits. He is taken to the behavior office due to his fearfulness. He keeps his distance from handlers, his body tense with his tail tucked. Apple B. takes treats from the handler that leashes him and briefly investigates a snuffle mat but does not engage with it. After a few minutes, he is returned to his kennel to prevent further stress. While he is distracted from staring at another dog/handler pair at the opposite end of the hallway, the handler successfully clips their lead, and he walks into his kennel without issue.
