Kit Kat

Hello, my name is Kit Kat. My animal id is #232747. I am a desexed male gray tabby cat at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 2 years 9 months 4 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 10/15/2025, with the surrender reason stated as person health - allergies.

Sorry, this pet is for new hope partners only.

Pre-Screener Form

Kit Kat is on the At Risk list due to behavior. He is not thriving in the care center and is deteriorating in care. He is now displaying signs of boredom and frustration. Due to his stress levels, it is in his best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. He would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give him plenty of time and space and who have experience with helping a fearful cat adjust to strangers.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 10/21/25 FB06 Kit Kat was in his den when I approach, with wide eyes, forward ears, and a tense body. I offered him treats on the scratcher that he hissed at as it was approaching but leaned in and sniffed as it reached the den portal. He then hissed at the treats. Kit Kat was very focused on the room around me with the noise in the background as he watched past me. As I touched him with the scratcher he hissed. I left the treats in the den. 10/24/25 FB58 Sitting up on top of his den with a slightly tense face and body, he grumbles and moves into the den - hisses as I offer dry treats. He sniffs the air but doesn't eat it after which I offer the tool out softly and he leans into cheek pets. He then realizes he's shown his soft side and reaches out to swat at my arm. 10/28/25 FB06 As I opened the kennel door, Kit Kat was sitting on top of the den with ears forward, and eyes wide. As I offered the scratcher, he leaned in to sniff it but then backed away and jumped down and went in his den. I then offered him some treats on the scratcher and also in a tray but he had no interest. He was fixated on watching the scratcher every time it moved. 11/04/25 FB06 At the front of his kennel, Kit Kat had a neutral face, soft eyes, forward ears and quite chatty. as I opened the door, I offered him squeeze up from the tube. He leaned and took a few whiffs and then started eating it. I then offered the scratcher . Kit Kat was leaning in rubbing himself on it but then hissed and swatted it. I ended the interaction there. Kit Kat has thumbs!! 11/6/25 FB20 Kit Kat is at the front meowing softly. When I open the cubby door he attempts to stick his head out. I offer the scratcher tool and he rubs his head on it before retreating into the main area of the kennel for a moment. He comes back and rubs along the scratcher tool, leaning in for rubs. I place a tray of squeeze up and he begins to eat it. While he eats, I attempt to place a few toys in the kennel. Kit Kat seems startled by the movement and swats at my hand (no claws) I close the kennel door and Kit Kat continues eating the squeeze up. When he finishes, he is at the front of the kennel again chirping at me. He then starts to play with his catnip mouse. 11/12/25 FB58 Kit Kat is standing at the front of the cage with an alert face and eyes wide, face and body slightly tense but appears to be soliciting attention. He appreciates pets at the front with the assessor's hand (wearing bite glove) and leans into cheek pets. As the assessor pets along his back with his tail raised, he turns quickly to look back once and the second time turns and bites their hand. Kit Kat consistently displays signs of overstimulation at this time. They do not need socialization, these behaviors are likely to continue in a home environment and this is not an indication that this cat is under socialized. They are a cat who may be sensitive to physical or environmental stimuli.

ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Subdued

VOCAL:: Quiet

POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful

Potential challenges comments:: Please see behavior flyer for more information.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : New Hope Only

RECOMMENDATIONS:: Adult only home

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Kit Kat was hunched in the back of his kennel as the assessor approached, body and face tense with his ears tilted and his tail wrapped around his body. Kit Kat hissed as the kennel door opened and he began to back away as the assessor reached towards him with the assess-a-hand. Kit kat swatted the hand before it could make contact with his head. Pick up as not attempted at this time to reduce stress. Kit Kat is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. He has tried to swat and is extremely fearful in the shelter environment. Kit Kat does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
