Animal Profile

Nino

Hello, my name is Nino. My animal id is #233851. I am a male tan dog at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 13 years 4 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 8/28/2025, with the surrender reason stated as person health - debilitating injuries.

Someone has already placed a deposit on me. I'm no longer available.

Nino needs placement due to medical reasons, he is a senior dog with a high grade heart murmur and large, ulcerated, infected mass on his right shoulder which needs surgical removal. He is sweet/social and has allowed medical handling, but needs more care than we can provide.

This pet needs emergency placement. Please click here to go to our emergency placement page for more information. Nino needs placement due to medical reasons, he is a senior dog with a high grade heart murmur and large, ulcerated, infected mass on his right shoulder which needs surgical removal. He is sweet/social and has allowed medical handling, but needs more care than we can provide. What my friends at ACC say about me: I can go home today! I have medical needs that staff will address with you when you meet me. I am a sweet, social, older gentleman, looking for the perfect forever home! I am finding the shelter a little overwhelming, but when it's just you and me and some peace and quiet you'll see what a love bug I am. I am looking for a home with a patient person. I would do best in a home with only adult humans.

My medical notes are...

[Spay/Neuter Waiver - Age] It is the policy of ACC not to perform surgery on any animal over the age of 8-10 years due to the higher risks incurred in a shelter setting. The veterinarian is hereby issuing a permanent spay/neuter waiver, from the spay/neuter requirements of the City of NY due to the estimated age of this animal. ACC does recommend you consult with your veterinarian to determine if surgical sterilization is appropriate.

Potential challenges: : Fearful/potential for defensive aggression

Potential challenges comments:: Fearful/potential for defensive aggression: According to Nino's owner, Nino will growl and hard bark at strangers approaching him, or when he is startled while sleeping. Positive reinforcement should be used to help Nino associate strangers with things he likes such as treats and toys. Please see the handout on Fearful/potential for defensive aggression.
