Summary:: Binks was surrendered as a stray with limited behavioral information. It was reported that Binks bit a smaller dog that resulted in a high-level bite with grave injuries to the smaller dog. Details about the incident were not provided. 03/13/25 Binks is introduced at the gate to a novel female dog while off leash at the care center. Binks will approach the gate to greet the novel female dog, scenting her through the gate. Binks displays a loose, wiggly frame, standing on the gate attempting to solicit her attention. Binks displays a high flagging tail, with wide dilated eyes, showing signs of sexual motivation. Binks will stand on his tip toes in order to appear bigger, toe-tapping in the process. Binks is returned to kennel. Before exiting the yard, he will approach the novel female dog, face-to-face, remaining loose and wiggly. The novel female dog begins to displace and create space, showing signs of discomfort. Binks and the handler will commence walking, returning back to the facility, concluding the interaction.
Summary (6):: 03/25/25: When the handler approaches, Binks is standing at the front of his kennel with mild whale eye as he waits to be leashed. Binks is escorted out of the care center and to the play yards. When on leash Binks will moderately pull ahead of the handler. In the yard Binks spends his time exploring and scenting. After sometime out Binks is escorted back to the care center where he is safely secured in his kennel. 3/24: Binks was seen jumping up, screeching, and pawing over his kennel frosting when handlers are doing morning cleaning or when dogs are being taken out or returned to kennel. 03/22/25: Binks has begun to dig at the door of his kennel for extended periods despite no one being present in the room. ACS staff also report hard barking and lunging at other dogs. 03/12/25: Binks is standing on his hind legs at the front of his kennel and will allow the handler to leash him with ease before being brought to the assessment room. Once inside, he will be fitted with a collar and drag leash before being set free to roam. Binks will be social with handlers, engaging with toys while maintaining a loose, relaxed body posture. When a third handler enters the room, Binks will sit down and observe calmly. After the assessment is complete, Binks will be safely escorted back to his kennel without any issues. 03/12/25 Binks is standing on his kennel door as the handler approaches. The handler will administer treats to Binks from between the kennel door bars, as he takes them gently. He is easily leashed and taken to the play yard. As he exits the facility, Binks pulls on lead with a stiff body and the handler applies slight leash pressure. As they arrive in the play pen, Binks will relieve himself. Binks will explore the pen right after, displaying a soft, relaxed frame. Binks will see other dogs with novel handlers and maintain a soft frame with a faint wagging tail and soft face. Binks will explore the yard some more and sit willingly when wanting a treat. Binks will collect treats gently when administered. Binks is returned to his kennel, as he exits the play yard visibly relaxed, trotting his way into the facility. Binks will pull his way to his kennel room, entering his kennel quickly.
Summary (7):: 03/01/25: Binks is standing at the front of kennel with a slightly tense frame as handler approaches. Handler offers him treats which he will sniff but does not eat. When the lead is presented, Binks will back away, avoiding leashing. Handler coaxes him forward with a soft tone and he will come forward, sniff their lead, and back away again. After a few attempts, Binks is leashed with ease and pulls moderately out for a walk. Binks spends time scenting and marking. He is walked up to a play yard where he will relieve himself and investigate the space. He remains aloof to handler throughout and is returned to kennel safely. 02/26/25 Binks is sitting in the center of his kennel hunched over displaying whale eyes. The handler approaches slowly, dropping down to one knee and coaxing him with a soft voice and treats. Binks approaches, licking the high value treats but not eating them. Binks will low growl when seeing the handler's lead. Binks will cower into the back of his kennel, becoming stiff and low growling. The handler will attempt to lassoes him twice, being successful on the second attempt. They proceed to the training room. Binks will pull his way to the training room. As he enters, he is exploring, chattering and marking different spots around the room. Binks will do this throughout his time in the training room, gradually beginning to pant heavily. Binks will begin to seek out an exit pulling from door to door with a stiff frame. The handler proceeds to take him outside to the play yard. As they exit the training room, Binks pulls intensely while panting heavily. At this point, Binks eyes are wide and red, as he explores different spots outside and marking them. Binks will stop and fixate on a dog with a novel handler, pulling away quickly to scent out another spot. Binks will attempt to pull towards one of the metal dogs along the gate of the facility, but when he realized it wasn't real, continues walking. He sees a real dog after with a novel handler and will pant heavily once again. He pulls his way to the entrance of the facility by way of the ramp, pacing in front of the entrance attempting to pull his way inside. Binks arrives at his kennel room, pulling his way in but reluctant to enter his kennel. The handler will guide him inside. 02/26/25: Binks is cowering in his kennel with heavily dilated pupils as the handler approaches. The handler offers him treats that he shows no interest in. Binks retreats to the back of the kennel as the handler unlocks the door. He growls as the handler lassos him before pressing flat against the ground. The handler moves some bowls out of his path and he crawls forward with a low body. The handler backs away and opens the door and he rushes for the door. Binks is then transferred to the medical team and the handler departs.

Summary:: Whale eye, tucked tail, flinching when touched
ENERGY LEVEL:: We have no history on Binks so we cannot be certain of their behavior in a home environment. However, they will need daily mental and physical activity to stay engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct their energy and enthusiasm.

Potential challenges: : Fearful/potential for defensive aggression,Anxiety,Bite history (dog)
Potential challenges comments:: Fearful/potential for defensive aggression/Anxiety: Binks has escalated to growling and lunging on multiple occasions both at intake and during his time in the care center. His signs of discomfort must be respected; Binks should never be forced to interact, he should always be given the opportunity to walk away from situations or people he finds uncomfortable. We recommend a slow approach and ONLY force-free, reward-based training methods for Binks. More aversive techniques are likely to increase fear, increase the risk of aggression, and decrease Binks' quality of life. Bite history (dog): Binks in his previous home is noted to have a bite incident where he bit the other resident smaller dog and the dog passed away from his injuries. The previous owner shared no details as to why the bite happened
