Boop
Hello, my name is Boop. My animal id is #247637. I am a desexed female black cat at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 2 years 1 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 2/15/2026, with the surrender reason stated as person health - medical.
Sorry, this pet is for new hope partners only.
Pre-Screener FormBoop is on the at-risk list due to behavior.She is an under socialized adult cat and is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. She has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. Due to her stress levels, it is in her best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. She would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give her plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with helping an under socialized and fearful cat adjust to strangers and new environments.
Let's get to know each other a bit more...

She would thrive in a quiet home with an experienced cat owner who can give her the time and space she needs to decompress and feel safe in her new environment.

Details on my behavior are...
Behavior Condition: 4. Orange
KNOWN HISTORY:: Boop was brought in with limited information on her behavior history in a home environment. She appears to have lived with 2 Adults and multiple other cats. Client stated that Boop and another cat just lived in the home and were provided basic care but unfortunately they did not socialize them.
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 2/24/26 FB58 In her den and hidden from view. I close the portal door and as the den cover is lifted, she appears to have been laying comfortably but immediately tenses with eyes wide and dilated and flees to the back of the den. She sits curled up with her tail wrapped tightly and eyes wide. She is wary of treats dropped into the den and lunges quickly and hisses when she sees my hand at the side of the den through the portal door. 2/26/26 FB58 In her den and hidden from view, I close the portal door and again she seems to have been resting comfortably but tenses and moves back when the den cover is removed. I am able to slide a catnip/Feliway toy and squeeze up into her cage and she remains tense and frozen. I replace the den cover to give a chance to eat on her own and when I lift it again, she is sitting normally again. I slowly offer my hand up to the den and she lunges and swats. 2/27/26 FB79 Boop girl can be heard hissing when i open the kennel door and speak to her; she is curled up towards the back and has wide eyes and her ears tilted; i tossed in treats near her which caused her to start quietly growling but she remained still while lip licking with focused with wide/alert eyes. I did not attempt touch and spoke to her softly which she had no rection to until i removed myself from the kennel and closed the door where she lunged and hissed.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Subdued
VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Shy ,Timid,Skittish,Independent
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful,New home adjustment period,Adult cat socialization
Potential challenges comments:: Boop is an adult cat that may not have had many interactions with humans from an early age. She is very apprehensive of people and she does attempt to flee and avoid human contact but will swat when pushed to interact. It is difficult to predict if she will respond to socialization but we recommend offering high value treats and food to help build a positive association to humans. Please be mindful that older cats will require more time and skill in order for them to be comfortable around people. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : New Hope Only
RECOMMENDATIONS:: Adult only home
Recommendations comments:: Due to the behavior seen in shelter and needing a longer time to warm up, the behavior team feels Boop would do best in an adult-only home where they would be able to acclimate in a calm environment.
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: On approach, Boop is in her den and hidden from view - she cannot be coaxed out with treats or when spoken to softly. When the den cover is removed to allow the assessor to view her, she tenses as she is pressed against the back of the den with eyes wide and dilated, before she looks to the portal and darts halfway out as if to flee before she darts back into the den and presses against the back. When the assessor offers the scratcher tool out to her, she tenses and hisses, raising a paw and swatting hard, hitting the tool as it enters into the den. She does so a few more times and the interaction is ended to prevent further FAS. She shows no interest in interaction and swats hard each time touch is attempted. Boop is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. She has tried to swat, is extremely fearful in the shelter environment, and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
