This pet needs emergency placement. Please click here to go to our emergency placement page for more information. Due to the detailed behavior issues, this animal is only available for foster/adoption through one of ACC's New Hope Partners. This animal is not directly available for adoption through ACC and is only available by completing the pre-screener form.Adoption inquiries sent directly to ACC will not receive a response. Pre-Screener Form Snoopy is in need of emergency placement due to behavior concerns. In Snoopy's previous home, Snoopy bit the neighbor's dog and then redirected it onto his foster. The canine victims had to get stitches, and his foster had punctures on his hand. Medically, Snoopy has heartworm disease and is obese. Snoopy was brought to the care centers due to a bite incident. Snoopy was in the home when she noticed a small dog in the hallway. She ran towards the other dog and bit it on the shoulder. Snoopy proceeded to bite and hold onto the small dog's tail. The foster's partner attempted to open Snoopy's mouth and was bitten on both hands. The small dog received punctures, and the other victim had punctures on his hands. In the care centers, Snoopy takes treats from the handler. She becomes tense when seeing other animals but is easily refocused. She would be best set up for success in an adult-only, single-pet home with an experienced adopter/foster through a New Hope partner that can utilize further socialization sessions and address any challenges Snoopy presents with the use of a certified trainer that uses force-free reward-based methods.

[Spay/Neuter Waiver - Permanent] Your newly adopted pet has been diagnosed with Heartworm disease and the staff veterinarians are issuing a PERMANENT waiver from the spay/neuter requirements of the City of NY. ACC does not have the facility to safely sterilize your pet with his/her current condition. However, your veterinarian will provide consultation on whether this procedure can or should be performed under their supervision. Follow up care at your regular veterinarian is recommended to ensure continued treatment and proper oversight of your pet's health. All costs for follow up care and subsequent surgery is at the expense of the adopter.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: New Hope Only
Recommendations:: Single-pet home,No children (under 13),Place with a New Hope partner,Recommend no dog parks
Recommendations comments:: No children (under 13): Due to the severity of Snoopy's bite, she should go to a home with older children. Single-pet home/Recommend no dog parks: Due to Snoopy's history as well as her behavior in play group (see dog-dog summary), we feel that Snoopy should not visit dog parks and be the only resident dog. The Behavior Department recommends that she be socialized in a more controlled setting until his behavior toward other dogs can be further addressed. Reward-based, force-free training can help Snoopy associate dogs with things she enjoys, like toys or treats. Place with a New Hope partner: Snoopy's bite history is significant. This is a behavior that has been rehearsed will require careful environmental management and likely significant lifestyle adaptations to prevent injury to his future humans and to increase Snoopy's quality of life. We highly recommend consultation with a veterinary behaviorist and/or highly qualified behavior modification trainer.
