Summary:: Due to entering the facility as a stray, there is limited prior dog-to-dog history recorded. According to Kardi's previous caretaker, she is friendly and outgoing with familiar dogs and has no experience with unfamiliar dogs. 7/17/26: Kardi is introduced to a novel male dog through a barrier. Kardi approaches displaying a soft body with perked ears and a high tail. She briefly huffs and disengages but readily reapproaches, remaining interested in the novel male but conflicted on committing to staying at the gate. Both dogs are then introduced on leash. The novel male remains soft bodied, soliciting play with repeated play bows while sniffing and licking Kardi's genital area. Kardi tolerates the interaction and, following multiple consent checks, consistently chooses to reapproach the novel male. She follows him around the yard and intermittently stiffens, appearing conflicted and alternating between wanting to engage and pause the interaction. The session is ended while both dogs remain manageable, with plans to continue introductions during a future session. 06/15/26 Kardi is introduced to a novel male while off leash. She approaches the gate with a neutral frame and walks away after sniffing the male through the gate. When meeting face-to-face, Kardi explores the yard before approaching the male. They engage in mutual sniffing, and Kardi becomes tense when the male attempts to mount her, so he is guided away.

Summary (4):: 07/23/26: (Dog to Dog Note): Kardi is lying in the back of her kennel and will stand up, approach the front, and allow the handler to leash her with ease. She will then be brought to the play yard to meet a male playmate. Once inside the yard, a drag leash will be placed on her. When her playmate arrives, Kardi will approach the greeting gate for a nose to nose greeting. She will display a wiggly body and wag her tail while also showing signs of confliction by disengaging and beginning displacement sniffing. She will then re-approach the gate, and once the gate is opened, her playmate will approach her. The two dogs will move in a circular pattern while sniffing one another. Kardi will continue wagging her tail, though it will begin to curve to the left as her playmate sniffs her. The dogs will be briefly separated and then allowed to re-approach, where they will continue displaying the same greeting behaviors. Once this session is concluded, Kardi will be brought back to her kennel safely without any issues. For more information, see Dog to Dog Assessment.

Summary (5):: 7/21/26: Kardi is at the back of her kennel sleeping on her kuranda bed as the handler approaches. she comes forward and is leashed with ease, licking the handler's hand as she exits the kennel. She will walk slowly out of the care center. Once out on the walk, Kardi will sniff around and pull lightly towards things she wants to sniff. She is returned to kennel with no issue and will wait for handler to toss treats into her kennel. She eats them as the handler locks the kennel and exits. 7/18/26: Kardi is at the front of the kennel with a loose body as the handler approaches. She is leashed with ease and brought to the office as it is thunder-storming outside. She is placed on a drag leash and will walk around the office. She will greet some handlers but will disengage on her own. After a while she will exit seek and the handler will return her to kennel with no issue. 07/02/25: kardi is reported to not want to come out of kennel and lip curl, hiding in back of her kennel, she was coaxes on leashed. 07/2/26(BA): Kardi is lying down in the back of her kennel and gets up to approach the front, allowing the handler to leash her with ease. She is brought to the assessment room where a drag leash is placed on her. Kardi tolerates handling while displaying frequent lip licks. She runs without becoming aroused and does not respond to the knock portion of the assessment. When the handler takes the leash and attempts to pet her along her back, she bares her teeth in response. Following this interaction, Kardi begins pacing throughout the room, displaying heavy panting and seeking exit by pawing at the door. She does not acknowledge the toy. For more information, see Behavioral Assessment. 6/20/26 (late entry): Kardi is at the front of the kennel barking as the handler approaches. She is leashed with ease and will pull moderately out of kennel and taken on a walk. Throughout the session, Kardi will sniff around and will engage with the handler when they offer her a treat and will then go back to sniffing. She is returned to her kennel with no issue and is secured safely.

Summary (6):: 06/15/26 (PG): Kardi is laying in her bed as the handler approaches. She is leashed with ease and walks on a loose leash to the yard. In the yard, she sniffs around and only briefly engages with handler's. After her interaction, she is brought back inside and returned to her kennel with no issue. 6/6/26: Kardi is at the front of her kennel and will begin to bark as the handler approaches. She is offered a treat to be leashed but will attempt to push out and not take the treat. Once she is leashed she will pull hard for the majority of the walk, stopping to sniff occasionally. She is then returned to kennel with no issue. 05/29/26: Kardi is laying on her bed as the handler approaches. She stands up and walks to the front of the kennel where she is leashed easily. Kardi walks slowly on a loose leash for the majority of the walk, sniffing frequently. She shows little interest in the handler or other dogs that pass by. When returning to the building, she is tense as the handler clips the leash, but after the leash is clipped, Kardi loosens and returns to the kennel without issue. 5/23/26 (Assessment): Kardi was at front of kennel with a tense body as handler approached. When kennel door was opened she came forward where she was easily leashed and taken to behavior room for an assessment. During the assessment she had a ticked tail but was social with handlers. Kardi did duck away first time drag leash was attempted but she did allow it to be clipped later. After assessment she was returned to kennel with no issue. 05/22/26: Kardi is lying on her kuranda bed when handler approaches. She comes forward slowly and is leashed with ease. Kardi pulls moderately out to the sidewalk where she will relieve herself. Handler guides her up to a play yard where Kardi will sniff along the space. She shows no interest of treats and remains aloof with handler throughout. Handler slowly clips their lead when she is distracted since she initially whale eyed when handler reached from the side to clip. Kardi is returned to kennel safely.

Summary (7):: 5/21/26: Kardi is laying down at the front of her kennel as handler approaches. She is comfortable being leashed and is then taken outside for a walk. On the walk, she has a neutral body frame as she walks ahead of the handler. She had no reactions to dogs or people that would pass by. She would hard stare at the handler with widened eyes as they slowly attempt to clip their leash. She then begins to growl and air snaps as the handler is able to clip her. She is able to slowly return back to her kennel with no issues. 5/20 (PM): Kardi is lying in her bedding when a handler approaches. She readily comes to the front of the kennel when she sees the hadnler. Kardi is easily leashed and brought to the behavior office due to the heat outside. She remains tense, tail low, ears pinned with wide eyes. Kardi ignores the handlers but makes a brief attempt to take a piece of cheese. She quickly spits it out and then begins pacing the room, lingering near the door she entered from, seeking an exit. Due to her fearfulness, the handler does not attempt to clip her and uses a hook to remove the lead. 5/19 (AM): Kardi is curled against a pillow when a handler approaches. She slowly stands and comes to the front of her kennel when she notices the handler. She is easily leashed and lumbers out of her kennel to the outside. Kardi sniffs grass and trees, but will occasionally pause to stare at the handlers with wide eyes, ears pinned, mouth closed, tail partially tucked. She ignores other dog/handler pairs. Due to the heat, the walk is kept short. Kardi pauses at the two steps to come back into the building, but begins walking when coaxed. She follows the handler to the room but drops nearly all the way to the ground when the hadnler begins to attempt to clip their ring at the same time ACS is exiting through the door with cleaning supplies. Kardi whale eyes, head whips, with her mouth open. She bolts into the room, slipping on a bit of water on the ground from a kennel being cleaned. Kardi stays on the floor for a few seconds before getting up when coaxed and continues walking until she enters her kennel. Lead is removed without issue. 5/18/26: Kardi is laying down at the front of her kennel as handler approaches. She is comfortable standing up and is able to be slowly leashed. She is then taken outside for a walk. On the walk, she has a tense body and low tail and would try to walk into the street and would baulk to the ground. She is able to continue the walk with praise and coaxing. She would hard stare at the people that would pass by. She would hard stare at the handler with widened eyes as they slowly attempt to clip their leash. She is able to slowly return back to her kennel with no issues.

Potential challenges comments:: Handling/touch sensitivity/Fearful/potential for defensive aggression/Anxiety: Kardi shows consistent signs of fear and anxiety in handling situations. She is able to be leashed and walk but moves slowly with a tense body, low/tucked tail, pinned ears, and wide eyes. She frequently pauses, startles easily, and shows avoidance behaviors such as balking to the ground or trying to move away. She tends to hard stare at people and handlers and becomes particularly distressed in stressful moments, showing whale eye, sudden head movements, and fleeing behavior. Despite this, she can be coaxed to continue moving and returns to her kennel. Please see the handout on Handling/touch sensitivity/Fearful/potential for defensive aggression/generalized anxiety. On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration: Kardi is noted on walks she hard stares at strangers who approach her family and may escalate to growling as well. Sometimes lunges towards cats. Teach Kardi alternative behaviors, such as focusing on you or performing a "touch" cue when she sees a trigger.
