Animal Profile

Logan

Hello, my name is Logan. My animal id is #163672. I am a male brown tabby cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 2 years 10 months old.

I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 9/21/2025, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- moving.

Logan is on the at-risk list due to behavior. He is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. His owner describes him as a bold and independent cat who loves to play. He has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. Due to his stress levels, it is in his best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. He would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give him plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with helping a fearful cat adjust to strangers. Medically Logan is healthy.

Medically Logan is healthy. What my friends at ACC say about me: I'm sensitive and shy. I'll need extra help from you. I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe. I am playful and cute! I will need daily physical activity to keep me healthy and happy! Logan has made nice improvement since his last assessment and was on top of the den, sniffed treats, and quickly came down and forward with the promise of even more treats. While eating squeeze-up, he allowed gentle petting along his head, neck, and upper back area, but when the treats ran out, he pulled back and looked concerned. With more treats, he again allowed gentle petting. Logan tolerates attention and petting but appears fearful or stressed in the shelter. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents. A volunteer writes: Logan keeps his real heart a little more protected than the one he wears on his paws. When Logan sits up or stretches out with paws together, you can see the latter perfectly. It's striped and adorable, but the other one, the one that counts the most, is a bit more hidden. Logan was brought to us when his guardian couldn't bring him with them and we learned that he's a wonderfully curious guy who loves to pounce and play. While Logan usually likes to be the one who decides when to make new friends, we keep trying to win his favor. Shelter life isn't always set up for our more gentle hearted friends, but there are still ways to learn more about them. Logan tends to be completely riveted by treats, but was less sure of himself when I held my hand out for him to sniff. Logan's hoping to share his heart with a patient family who will meet him where he is.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 9/24/25 PRIOR ASSESSMENT Logan remained alert and defensive throughout the assessment. He hissed, growled, and avoided contact, though he showed some curiosity by sniffing the scratcher tool. He ignored treats, and the session was ended early to minimize stress. 9/29/25 FB73 Logan is laying on top of his den, resting his head on his front paws, presenting with airplane ears and dilated pupils when he is approached. After a minute or two of soft talking and offering treats, Logan comes down from the top of the den to sniff at and eat the crunchy treats. A squeeze up is offered and held out for him, and he comes immediately to the front of the kennel to eat the squeeze up. Petting is not able to be attempted as when he spots the scratcher tool or my hands, he stiffens, ears pinning back, and backs away. When squeeze up is held out for him again, he comes forward to continue eating it. When interaction is over, he remains at the front of the kennel for a few minutes before returning to lay at the top of his den. 9/30/25 FB73 Logan is laying on top of his den, observing me as I approach his kennel door with dilated pupils and airplane ears. Crunchy treats are used to coax him down from the den. After a few minutes he slowly comes down to eat the treats and is able to be coaxed to the front of the kennel with them. He is offered a squeeze up, which he immediately accepts and is able to be fed without needing the scratcher tool. After interaction is ended he remains at the front of the kennel and continues to observe me with neutral body language. 10/03/25 FB73 Logan is sitting at the front of the kennel, observing me as I approach him. I am able to slowly place treats in front of him through the kennel bars, which he accepts and eats. His body is slightly tense, tail tucked behind him, and does pause and stiffen on occasion, but continues to allow me to place the treats in front of them and continues to accept them. Petting is attempted with the scratcher tool, which he responds to by backing up and retreating to the top of his den to avoid contact. He is able to be coaxed back to the front with more treats and I am able to feed him a squeeze up by hand through the kennel bars. 10/04/25 FB73 Logan is laying on top of his den, body and eyes neutral. He comes down to the front of the kennel as I approach, allowing me to slowly place crunchy treats in front of him through the kennel bars, which he eats. He is able to be fed a squeeze up through the kennel bars, immediately eating it. Petting is attempted with the scratcher tool, and I am able to briefly pet his head before he dodges the scratcher, freezes, and stares at me, ears to the side. He does not escalate any further and continues eating the squeeze up as it is offered. *Enrichment Notes continued in GAN*
