What my friends at ACC say about me: My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet! I have medical needs that staff will address with you when you meet me. I am a sweet, social, older gentleman, looking for the perfect forever home! I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe. Telenovela interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for cat parents with either an average amount of cat experience, demonstrate a basic understanding of typical cat behavior.

A: -Clinically, appears stable -Elevated proBNP and Grade 5/6 heart murmur consistent with clinically significant heart disease -Severe dental disease -OS symblepharon vs other -Geriatric cat P: -Continue current care and CTM closely while at QACC. -Recommend cardiology consult/echo with placement; pending cardiologist recommendations, consider dental procedure. -P has ongoing medical needs beyond capacity for long-term shelter management; needs placement ASAP. -On ARL beginning Thursday 9/10; recheck.

Upon intake, the cat was curious and would peak from the carrier but go back in to cuddle up next to Pico De Gallo. Staff were able to place ACC collar, Scan for M/C, pick up and place into den. Once in the den the cat began to stress meow.

KNOWN HISTORY:: Telenovela was brought in as a stray, there is no known information on his behavior history in a home environment. He was brought in by agency in the same carrier with his sibling. Upon intake, the cat was curious and would peak from the carrier but go back in to cuddle up next to Pico De Gallo. Staff were able to place ACC collar, Scan for M/C, pick up and place into den. Once in the den the cat began to stress meow.

Potential challenges comments:: Telenovela is a friendly and social cat, and appreciated petting and attention throughout the interaction, purring and leaning into the touch. However, it took some time to coax him out of the den, needing to pause and return to the cage and offer their hand again. Later when he is re-introduced to his sibling Pico de Gallo (264063), he easily walks out of the den and is open to any and all interactions, moving from making biscuits on the bed next to his sibling and coming to the front of the cage and looking around and accepting pets. While he was still social and friendly previously, pretty immediately upon seeing and sitting next to Pico de Gallo, Telenovela appears to be much more settled and soft and is consistently purring, moving to stand over his sibling and sniffing him before he loafs against him and makes biscuits with a soft face and body. Upon intake, it was noted by admissions staff that Telenovela was curious and would peak from the carrier but go back in to cuddle up next to Pico De Gallo. Staff were able to pick him up and once in the den, Telenovela began to stress meow.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Level 2

RECOMMENDATIONS:: Adult only home

Recommendations comments:: Due to the behavior seen in shelter and needing a longer time to warm up, the behavior team feels Telenovela would do best in an adult-only home where they would be able to acclimate in a calm environment. Counselor discretion is advised, and when appropriate he may do well in a home with children over the age of 13. Although we have no behavior history on him, after re-introducing him to his sibling Pico de Gallo (264063), it is at least confirmed that he gets along significantly well with him and is much more relaxed in the presence of another cat, even if previously still accepting and appreciating attention. We cannot be certain how he does with all cats however.

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: On approach, Telenovela is in his den and hidden from view. When spoken to, his face is visible in the den opening as he looks out slightly curious and sniffs at the hand offered out to him. He accepts and leans into pets along his head and cheeks with his tongue poking out a tiny bit. When his den cover is lifted, he remains in place and continues to be appreciative of petting and attention in his den, leaning into more petting, purring, and nudging his head into the assessor's arm as they pet along his side. Although he is appreciative of petting and attention, he cannot be coaxed out of the den. He continues to appear curious about interactions and he pokes his head out of the portal opening. He does eventually come out of the den when the assessor returns and offers their hand out to him near the opening. He steps out and approaches the front with a neutral face and body, ears forward and tail raised, meowing, and accepts more pets, as well as the assessor lifting him up and placing him back down. Telenovela interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for cat parents with either an average amount of cat experience, demonstrate a basic understanding of typical cat behavior.
