Sorry, this pet is for new hope partners only.
Pre-Screener FormPharo is on the at-risk list due to behavior concerns. In the care center, Pharo displays high arousal and anxiety, including jumping, barking, whining, leash biting, and grabbing at the lead. Pharo struggles to settle, and has difficulty with kennel entry and exit, including pushing out of the kennel and attempting to flee once placed in kennel. Pharo during intake has also displayed a high level of reactivity toward staff, lunging and hard barking when with his previous owner. Pharo lived well in his previous home with a cat, hamster, and bird. Pharo is able to engage with familiar handlers, accepts brief petting, can play at times, but is still struggling in the care center. Medically, Pharo is apparently healthy.

Date of assessment:: 3/22/2026
Summary:: 3/22/26: Due to his denfensive behavior on intake and high level of anxious behavior, a handling assessment will not be condcuted at this time.
Summary (6):: 3/22/26: Pharo is jumping on the kennel door and barking when a handler approaches. While the handler is attempting to leash him, he pushes his nose and a paw out of the gap, raking his nails down the handler's leg. Pharo bites the handler's lead once and needs a squeaker to be distracted so the handler can leash him, as he will not take treats. Once out of the kennel, Phjaro screeches briefly before jumping up, mouth open as the handler quickly walks him out of the room. He whines and pulls hard as he is brought to the behavior office. Pharo is visibly anxious - panting, red in the face, whining, unable to settle/focus, and refuses sausages, cheese, and chicken breast. During his lap of the room, Pharo grabs the end of the handler's lead once and lets go before jumping up again towards the lead, mouth open. Once the handlers are notified that his kennel is clean, Pharo is walked back to the kennel. He is quickly ushered in. Although he does briefly try to push out as the lead is being removed.
Summary (7):: 3/21/26: Pharo is in the front of his kennel when the handler approaches. He is easily leashed, and he pulls his way out of the kennel room. Once in the hallway, he begins to bark and vocalize when he sees a familiar handler down the hallway. Once he is finally able to reach the handler he calms down and follows the handlers into the behavioral office. Pharo allows the primary handler to collar him and allows petting. Pharo begins to engage in a game of fetch with both handler, but will begin to pace and pant by the exit door. Pharo will return to the handler for attetion. Pharo is is leashed and taken back to his kennel room where he begins to pull the breaks, Pharo has to be reset to reurn back into kennel where he attempts to push his way out of kennel. 03/20/26: Pharo is standing at the front of kennel with a neutral frame as handler approaches. Handler offers treats which he shows no interest in. When they crack the kennel door to leash him, Pharo will push forward and paw at the crack in the door, but handler is able to drop the lead over his head. Upon exiting kennel, Pharo pulls hard and begins to whine and zigzag around handler. He is brought to the Canine Behavior Office where he paces back and forth while panting heavily. He will approach familiar handler and lean in for brief petting. He does not show interest in any toys or treats during his time in the room. Upon return to kennel, Pharo immediately pushes out before handler can close the door fully. They walk him in a circle to reset but he balks and pulls away so handler has to muscle him into kennel and quickly close the door. He begins screeching in kennel as handler exits room. 3/19/26: Pharo is at the front of his kennel laying down when the handler approaches. Pharo walks up the the handler, sniffing the treats that are being offered and wags his tail slightly. Pharo is neutral bodied and quiet, he will eat the treats that are tossed to him from under the door. Pharo is easily leashed, walked out of kennel and taken for a brief walk. Pharo on the walk whines constantly, remains hypervigilant and pulls very hard in many directions. Pharo is brought to the yard to explore his surroundings, and remains neutral bodied but panting heavily, still whining. Pharo is offered treats and will eat them, and watches dogs pass on the sidewalk. Pharo will tense when seeing the other dogs with a high tail and forward body posture. Pharo is taken back inside and pulls hard all the way back to his kennel.
