I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 10/27/2017, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- homeless.

Rex is at risk due to being diagnosed with Canine Upper Respiratory Disease Complex which is contagious to other dogs. he will most likely require in home care with a course of antibiotics. we recommend Rex go to an experienced dog owner that is prepared to manage his size and strength.

A volunteer writes: "He played a big brother role to the children around him." And with those words, his former owner surrendered him to our care due to personal problems. Rex comes with an outstanding resume of a family dog who has been with the same family all his life. He lived with young children with whom he was relaxed and playful, is friendly with strangers, doesn't guard his things, loves water and baths, is nervous with fireworks and storms, is housetrained, well behaved when left home alone, and energetic. I LOVED this gorgeous big headed boy who pulls at first on leash, but after going potty, walks at a nice pace. He pulls towards birds in our path, did a bouncy bow to two small dogs in front of a store, and in his first playgroup with a female, enjoyed some running play. Off leash in a pen with me, Rex loved his toys, running from one to another, amusing himself like a pro. He brings a toy over to me for a good game of tug, and when I let him win, he brings it back to give me another chance. So thoughtful, lol! Rex knows a number of commands, showing off his sit and shake when I asked. Affectionate, snuggly, lively and an all around awesome dog with the fabulous ear to ear grin Pitties are known for, Big Rex is hoping you'll stop by to meet him today. Diarrhea reported yesterday evening. Today, pt has mild serous nasal discharge, and is sniffling and coughing occasionally. Move to isolation, start doxycycline 300 mg PO SID x14 days and Cerenia 60 mg PO SID x5 days. 1088

Rex had a very relaxed body. He jumped up and down counselor and wagged his tail while counselor collard him. He allowed to be photographed and placed in a kennel.

How is this dog around children?: He is relaxed, playful and respectful around children. He played a big brother role to the children around him.

Resource guarding:: He is not bothered if you touch his food bowl while eating, or take his treat or toy away or push off furniture or restrained or disturbed while sleeping. He loves water and baths and isn't bothered if you touch his feet. He is friendly if unfamiliar faces approach you or family member.
Bite history:: Rex has not bitten a human or another animal

For a New Family to Know: Rex is friendly, affectionate, playful, confident and excitable. He is a playful and loving dog that loves human attention. He would follow you around the home and loves to play balls, fetch, chase and wrestling. He was kept most indoors, fed wet and dry dog food twice daily. He is house trained, doesn't have accidents and goes potty on cement when outdoors. He is well behaved if left alone at home and was never crated. He understands the commands sit, stay, shake, no, back up and go eat. He goes on slow walks on a leash, pulls very hard on the leash and stays close by your side.

Summary (1):: Rex has displayed social, playful behavior toward other dogs in the care center. The previous owner of Rex did not cite history around other dogs. The behavior department feels Rex may be most compatible with other social, playful dogs. 10/28: When introduced off leash to a female dog, Rex engages in running play.

His adopter must be prepared and able to handle a dog of this size and strength. It is recommended that he be walked on a front clip harness or head halter, which help diminish his strength through leverage, and that he be trained using positive reinforcement, reward based training to not pull on leash.
