Rosito
Hello, my name is Rosito. My animal id is #182244. I am a male cream dog at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 2 years 10 months 4 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 4/7/2026, with the surrender reason stated as animal behavior - aggressive towards people.
Sorry, this pet is for new hope partners only.
Pre-Screener FormRosito is at risk due to behavioral concerns. Rosito arrived at the Care Center as an owner surrender. Upon intake Rosito was initially fearful but warmed up to staff and was highly social during his recent handling assessment. Rosito's previous owner reported that there was an attempted bite incident in the home. When a child walked by Rosito he snapped towards the child, no broken skin. Rosito was also reported to resource guard, escalating to growling and snapping when in possession of food or toys. With staff, Rosito continues to be social, allow all handling, and solicit contact. Medically, Rosito is healing from a wound but is otherwise apparently healthy.

Potential challenges: : Resource guarding,Fearful/potential for defensive aggression,Anxiety,Bite history (human)
Potential challenges comments:: Resource Guarding: Rosito's previous owner states that he will snap and growl if he has food, toys, or bones in his possession. Nothing should ever be taken directly out of Rosito's mouth, and any time something is removed they should be rewarded with a high value treat or toy. Please see handout on Resource Guarding. Fearful Defensive: Rosito was observed to growl and hard bark at handlers during intake. It is important to move slowly with Rosito, to build positive associations (treats/toys/praise), and to allow them to initiate interactions with new people. They should never be forced to greet or to interact if they are not comfortable and soliciting attention. Please see handout on Fearful and Defensive Aggression. Bite History (Human): Please see bite history above for more details. Please see handout on Bite History and Potential for Future Aggression. Anxiety: Rosito's previous owner states that he is anxious in the home. If Rosito displays anxious behavior in their future home, we recommend puzzle toys, long walks, and giving them other things to focus on to alleviate their anxiety. Positive reinforcement, force-free training should be used. Please see handout on Generalized Anxiety.
