Hello, my name is Cabbage Patch. My animal id is #210359. I am a desexed male gray cat at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 4 years 1 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a stray on 9/18/2024.

Cabbage Patch is on the at-risk list for medical reasons. Cabbage Patch is a diabetic cat - he will need long-term insulin administration and vet care as diabetes is most often a lifelong disease in cats. We are unable to appropriately manage diabetes in shelter.

It is unknown if I have ever lived with other animals or children. I have medical needs that staff will address with you when you meet me. I'm an independent kitty who likes to do my own thing. Cabbage Patch interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for cat parents with either an average amount of cat experience, demonstrate a basic understanding of typical cat behavior. Cabbage Patch would do best in a home with no young children under the age of 5.

DVM Intake Exam Estimated age: 4 yr Microchip noted on Intake? negative History:stray, abdanoned, Hx diabetic on insulin Subjective:stray Observed Behavior -very docile , soft body Is there evidence of Cruelty?none Is there evidence of Neglect?none Is there evidence of Trauma?none Objective QAR adequate hydration mm pink P = WNL R = WNL BCS 3/9 EENT: Eyes clear, ears clean, no nasal or ocular discharge noted Oral Exam:clean adult dentition, minimal gingival erythema PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: NSR, NMA, CRT < 2, Lungs clear, eupnic ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated U/G: neutered male MSI: Ambulatory x 4, entire coat matted no masses noted, CNS: Mentation appropriate - no signs of neurologic abnormalities Rectal: not performed Assessment DM, BG 344 on intake poor BCS heavily matted Prognosis: fair, will need continuous DM care Plan: clipped coat Chem/lytes continue in house protocol for DM management: Start AM BG checks SID x 7 days Continue PZI 1 unit SQ BID indefinitely CTM closely while at QACC Diabetes is most often a lifelong disease in cats. Rechecks - Diabetes mellitus; on 1U PZI BID S/O: BAR, laying down in kennel; appears comfortable. Noted to be Pu/PD. Eating consistently and well through the day. Mildly prolonged skin tent, slightly tacky mm. BG readings 9/19: 373 (pm) 9/20: 251 (am), 497 (pm) 9/21: 375 (pm) A: stable, but still high BG on 1U PZI BID Mildly dehydrated P: -Administered LRS 100ml SQ -Ok to continue with current insulin dose; 1U q12h - if still >350 consider increasing dose -Recheck spot BG tomorrow AM, continue daily AM checks until 9/26 -Brief DVM rechecks daily or every 2 days if stable *Seek placement for continued care and monitoring.

S: -recheck DM -good appetite for DM food, no c/s/v/d -QAR, leans in for pets O EENT: no OU/n dc, mm pm <2 H/L: eupneic MSI: no apparent lameness, some matting down the back, esp at hind end, good skin turgor A. DM- BG is still unsteady, 300 this am post eating P. CTM in medical, p on ARL. Con't with 1 unit insulin SQ, consider increase if p BG trends above 300. No need for fluids aTT

General recheck, diabetic cat Patient is BAR, well hydrated, leans in for petting. AS excellent. No C/S/V/D. EENT: No ocular or nasal discharge H/L: Eupneic MSI: Ambulates normally in kennel, able to use litterbox Neuro: Alert and appropriate A. DM BG 400 in AM Receiving 1U insulin P. Continue to monitor in medical Continue 1U vetsulin for 2 weeks, can consider dose change if continues to trend above 300. Can consider send out fructosamine at 2 week mark Seek placement - patient has a chronic condition that is better managed outside of a shelter setting

Upon intake, Cabbage Patch allowed staff to scan for MC and collar while she ate temptation salmon treats. She was unbothered when picked up and placed in the carrier. She ate some wet/dry food. She sat in front of the kennel and was alert, looking around when staff walked by. She enjoyed being petted.

If yes, Please elaborate:: Cabbage Patch was noted to urinate outside the box. The accidents began when her litter box was moved from the living room to the kitchen. She did not see a vet for this. The previous owner did not try to modify this behavior.

Basic Information:: Cabbage Patch is an approx. 2 y/o, female, unknown spayed, DLH with no injuries noted. Her most recent veterinary care is unknown. Her previous owner found her as a stray a month ago.

How is this cat around strangers?: Noted to hide initially due to being shy/timid. She is tolerant and warms up after two weeks.

How is this cat around children?: Noted to sometimes prefer contact on her terms but is tolerant and friendly. She played gently with the children she lived with for a month, boy age four and girl age 10.

How is this cat around other cats?: No experience.

How is this cat around dogs?: No experience.

Behavior Notes: Cabbage Patch has never had her nails trimmed. She enjoys having her coat brushed. She is unbothered being picked up/held. She struggles/squirms when placed in a carrier.

While it is unclear how high traffic either of these rooms were, Cabbage Patch has been using his litter box appropriately while in shelter and would benefit from multiple litter boxes located in quiet and low traffic areas in the home.

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: On approach, Cabbage Patch is laying in his cage with a neutral face and body, ears forward but facing away from the front of the cage. He allows all pets along his head and back and rolls onto his side as he softens, eventually turning around. He continues to appreciate pets and leans his cheek into the assessors hand. He allows the assessor to lift him up and place him back down without issue. Cabbage Patch interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for cat parents with either an average amount of cat experience, demonstrate a basic understanding of typical cat behavior.
