Summary:: Due to entering the facility as a stray, there is no prior dog-to-dog history recorded. 9/23/26: Honey Booboo is introduced to a novel intact male and is loose and wiggly at the fence, standing up on the fence door with mid level wags. She jumps down and shakes off, sneezes a couple times, then toe taps at the fence line. She is let into the yard and sniffs nearby the other dog, letting them sniff her from behind remaining loose with mid level wags. She then play bows and bounces, leaping on the other dog and bounces around her handler. She sniffs independently and shakes off, sneezes, then continues bouncing, play slapping, and bumping the other dog with a loose wiggly body and open panting mouth. After multiple minutes of play, the other dog positions himself to mount her and she whips around and lunges towards him while hard barking. She is pulled away and led out of the yard, redirecting without issue. 9/19/26: Honey Booboo is introduced to a novel intact male and is loose and wiggly at the fence with fast mid-high level wags. She stands on the fence greeting handlers, then bounces around the catch pen. She is let into the yard and bounces over to the other dog, play bowing and zooming around him while intermittently sniffing. She bumps the other dog and the other dog walks away and they are given a break. Honey Booboo greets handlers and is loose while exploring the yard, walking nearby the other dog without interaction remaining relaxed. She attempts to approach after several minutes, sneezing a couple times and bouncing over. She play bows and the other dog shows signs of discomfort, she is led across the yard without issue and the meet is ended. 9/15/26: Honey Booboo is introduced to a novel intact female and is loose at the fence with mid level wags. She shakes off and greets her handler, then stands by the gate calmly as the other dog is brought across the yard. Honey Booboo is let into the yard and engages in mutual sniffing with a neutral body and high wagging tail. She lifts her leg while the other dog sniffs her and then does a chin over and play bows, bouncing towards the other dog. The other dog leaps towards her playfully and Honey Booboo gives a disproportionate vocal correction while lunging towards the other dog. She is pulled away and redirects her attention without issue, looking at the other dog from afar with a loose body and mid level wags, sneezing and shaking off. The two reapproach and mutually sniff, Honey Booboo play bows and the other dog bounces in response. Honey Booboo again overcorrects the other dog and the two are separated. 9/12/26: Honey Booboo is introduced to a novel intact male and is loose and wiggly at the fence with mid level wags. She toe taps and whines while following the other dog along the fence line continuing to sniff him.

Summary (6):: 10/6/26: Honey Boo Boo is at the back of her crate when handler passes. As they put on PPE, Honey jumps up and begins pawing at the bars and demand barking. She is easily leashed and taken out of the crate. Honey pulls moderately out towards the street. Handler has her step to the side and sit down. She takes treats gently from the handler as pedestrians pass by them. Honey Boo Boo then does zoomies around the street, before turning towards the handler and jumping up and down on them repeatedly. Handler tosses a toy to redirect her. Honey Boo Boo, then grabs the toy and bounces around with it shortly before walking ahead of the handler. She carries the toy with her the entire walk as she relieves herself and pulls towards spots of interest which she sniffs. Honey Boo Boo is then walked back towards the shelter and is returned to her crate without issue. 10/5/26 - Honey Boo Boo is at the front of her crate with loose body, handler has a toy for her for when she exits and she is easily leashed and grabs the toy then walked through the hallway with no reactivity to other staff or dogs. Outside she pulls moderately and stops at times to play with her toy, she is receptive to treats and verbal cues and isn't observed to be reactive to any dogs or people outside on her walk, at one point when the leash was in her line of sight she did go to bite it but then is quickly redirected to her toy and continues the walk with no issues, she is easily returned back to kennel and unleashed.

Summary (7):: 9/25/26: Honey Booboo is at the front of her crate with a loose body; she is easily leashed and brought out the hallway. Honey walks ahead with mild to moderate leash and no reactivity to people or dogs. Honey is receptive to recalls, as she immediately stops and sits in front of the handler when they call her name; she also takes treats from their palm. After she relieves herself and the handler cleans after her, Honey exuberantly moves around and playbows in front of the handler. When entering the driveway, Honey presents a wiggly body to a staff member speaking to her with a baby voice; she picks up a toy while walking through the hallway. as her crate is by the office, Honey pulls into the crate with her new toy; the handler attempts to pull her out, but she lies down. The handler presents treats, and as Honey drops her toy to step out of the crate, the handler walks her into the office for her assessment (see notes). Honey is returned to her crate afterwards. 9/22/26: Honey Booboo was upfront and present in her crate with a loose wiggly body when handler approached. Honey Booboo was then leashed easily and proceeded with her walk. Coming out of the shelter Honey Booboo was really excited but was easily refocused with a command followed by a treat. But after a while Honey Booboo would get impatient and started to jump up for the treats in handlers hand when prompted to sit. There were no further issues on the walk or returning to shelter. Honey Booboo happily returned to her crate after a treat was thrown in. 9/19/26 (D2D): Honey Booboo was at the front of her crate with a neutral body and a low waging tail. She was easily leashed and taken to the backyard for playgroup (Please see dog to dog notes for details). After playground he was returned to kennel with no issue. 9/12/26: Honey Booboo is at the front of her kennel with a wiggly body; she is easily leashed and brought out the crate. Honey is brought to the yard for playgroup (see D2D notes); as she enters, she pulls hard past the pen. She then approaches and jumps on a couple of handlers present. After she meets the other dog through a gate greet, the handler places a collar on her. As they attempt to clip a dragline on it, Honey begins to exuberantly jump and mouth the dragline a few times; once she stops, the handler attempts to clip the leash, but she jumps and bites the slip leash many times. The handler clips the leash to her collar, but Honey continues to bite the leash; as she stands on her hind legs against the fence, they unclip their collar and bring her out the yard. Honey is returned to her crate right after.

ENERGY LEVEL:: We have no history on honey booboo so we cannot be certain of her behavior in a home environment. However, she is a young, enthusiastic dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep her engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct her energy and enthusiasm.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: New Hope Only

Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Recommend no dog parks,Place with a New Hope partner

Recommendations comments:: No children (under 13): Due to Honey Booboo arousal concerns we recommend she is placed in an adult only home at this time. Recommend No Dog Parks: Due to the displays of behavior indicating that Honey Booboo is uncomfortable around other dogs – conflicted with play, giving disproportionate corrections - the Behavior Department recommends that she not be taken to dog parks. Reward-based, force-free training can be utilized to counter-condition and desensitize Honey Booboo to help her associate other dogs with positive experiences, such as toys or treats. Place with a New Hope partner: Honey Booboo came into the care center as a stray due to this her behavioral history in a home environment is unknown. Honey BooBoo is noted to show social behavior towards handler leaning in for petting and readily accepts treats. Due to Honey Booboo leash biting and having difficulty refocusing the behavior department recommends Honey Booboo be placed with a New Hope placement partner who is able to provide an experienced adult-only foster home. A period of decompression is recommended to allow Honey Booboo to acclimate comfortably to her new environment; force-free, reward based training only is advised when introducing Honey Booboo to new and unfamiliar situations.

Potential challenges: : Resource guarding,Basic manners/poor impulse control,Social hyperarousal,Fearful,Leash-biting

Potential challenges comments:: Resource Guarding: During her assessment Honey was observed to be tense and freeze when being interacted with while in possession of a toy. Nothing should ever be taken directly out of Honey's mouth, and any time something is removed he should be rewarded with a high value treat or toy. She should be taught the "drop" cue and trade-up games. Please see handout on Resource Guarding. Basic manners/poor impulse control/Leash-biting/Social hyperarousal: Honey Booboo leash biting and jumping on handlers and not being able to be refocused. Continued training should focus on reinforcing calm behavior, teaching alternative attention-seeking behaviors, and rewarding engagement with the handler before arousal escalates. Please see the handouts on Basic manners/poor impulse control, arousal, leash-biting. Fearful: On intake she is notes to freeze when dogs barked at her in the kennel room and had to be helped to be placed into her kennel. Providing low-pressure handling, creating distance from overwhelming triggers, and allowing her time to build confidence will help support her adjustment and reduce fear-related responses. Please see the handout on decompression period.
