Animal Profile

Snow

Hello, my name is Snow. My animal id is #200619. I am a male tabby cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 6 years 9 months 3 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a aco - owner surrender on 5/20/2024, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- hoarding situation.

Sorry, this pet is for new hope partners only.

Pre-Screener Form

Snow is on the at-risk list due to behavior. He is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. He has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. Due to his stress levels, it is in his best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. He would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give him plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with helping a fearful cat adjust to strangers. Medically, Snow has stage 2 dental disease.

My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet! I have lived with cats. A volunteer writes: Our boy Snow is looking for an angel, someone who understands scaredy cats and can give this skittish guy the time and space to really come out of his shell. Though he arrived at the Care Center from a home situation with some of his buddies, he's having a tougher than usual time adjusting. Snow is curious and accepts pettings, and his way of coping with his new environment is by hiding. We just know there's a good, sweet boy underneath his fearful exterior, and we're putting out the call to find him the safe forever home he deserves. KNOWN HISTORY:: Snow was brought in with limited information on his behavior history from a home environment with 20 cats.

ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Subdued

VOCAL:: Quiet

CHARACTER TYPE: : Curious,Timid,Skittish,Independent

POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful,New home adjustment period,Adult cat socialization

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : New Hope Only

RECOMMENDATIONS:: Adult only home

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Snow was inside the den upon approach. Alert with eyes wide, pupils fully dilated. Ears erect and forward. He quickly strikes at the scratcher tool when attempting to make contact for pets through the side portal door. Intense stare at the assessor while retrieving the tool ending the assessment. Snow is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. He is extremely fearful in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
