Housetrained:: Partially

Energy level/descriptors:: Shadow displays a low energy

Other Notes:: Goes potty on: "Outside on walks (grass, cement, dirt, etc.)" Accident frequency: Few times a week Additional info: He either urinates on objects on the floor, like bags or boxes, furniture corners or legs. Behavior concerns: Barks a lot, "Destructive tendencies (furniture, walls, shoes, household items, etc.)" Additional info: Not reported Reacts to on walks: Cats, Large dogs, Strangers that approach you/family members, Strangers that approach the home/yard Reaction type: Growling/Hard barking, Lunging Additional info: Not reported How this dog reacts when... - Held/restrained: Isn't bothered, Barks/Growls - Disturbed while resting/sleeping: Isn't bothered - Startled: Isn't bothered - Pushed/pulled off furniture: Barks/Growls, Isn't bothered - Paws are touched: Isn't bothered - Collar grabbed/touched: Isn't bothered Around 6 months old, his owner's roommate waved a treat in front of his face and reportedly teased Shadow with it. Shadow started growling in response to his treat being waved in his face, but the roommate continued. The roommate was warned not to provoke Shadow, but the roommate continued claiming Shadow would not do anything. The growling became deeper, and Shadow lunged to bite the roommate's hand. The skin was broken, and the roommate bled. He did not seek outside medical. He treated himself at home. Around the age 4-5 years old, Shadow had bitten his brother, a LMB Labrador, in the scrotum twice. There were 2 separate incidents of Shadow biting his brother, and both incidents were caused by the same trigger and led to Shadow biting the same area. Previous owner stated Shadow had an "inferiority complex", and felt the need to "dominate" his Lab brother. Shadow reportedly became triggered whenever his brother walked out the apartment before him when the owner would take them out for walks. During both incidents, Shadow was behind his lab brother, face level with his brother's scrotum, and bit him. Lab did not bleed but was in pain. After this incident, the previous owner decided to clicker train him with a shock collar. She would place the collar around Shadow and shock him if he barked or became aggressive at the apartment door. This reportedly improved Shadow's behavior with his brother before exiting the apartment for walks. Shadow also bit the previous owner's 3-year-old daughter. Client states she was in another room when she heard her daughter cry out from the bathroom. When client got there, she saw Shadow crouching with his ears down in the corner of the bathroom. Her daughter stated Shadow bit her when she waved and hit his face with yellow dishwashing gloves. Shadow has bitten the owner a couple of times. Owner claims it was only when he was provoked. One time Shadow was eating and client started petting him which led to him growling and biting her hand.

Date of assessment:: 11/8/2024

Summary:: In his home Shadow was reported to have a number of behavior concerns and has escalated to biting multiple times. Due to these behaviors, Shadow will not receive a handling assessment.

Summary (7):: 11/15/24: Shadow is standing in the front of his kennel as handler approaches. He is leashed without issue and is offered treats which he takes lightly from handler. He allows leashing without issue, once he is out of kennel handler stops in front of the door and kneels down to place Shadow on a harness. Shadow approaches handler with a soft body and wagging tail, hopping up on handlers knee and sniffing handler as well as allowing handler to place him on a harness. He is taken to the street for his walk, during which he walks alongside handler and doesn't pull. He walks past people on the street without issue and is easily refocused when handler calls to him and continues to take treats softly from handlers hands. Shadow solicits social interaction from handler by standing on his hind legs and balancing onto handlers leg, he accepts pets with a soft body and leans into handler. He walks for a while more and uses the bathroom outside before being returned to kennel without issue. 11/3/24: Shadow is standing in the front of his kennel as handler approaches. He wags his tail and accepts treats softly from handler before being leashed. Shadow approaches handler and climbs into handlers arms and is carried out into the street. Shadow walks slightly in front of handler and will walk past people on the street without issue. Shadow sniffs around and uses the bathroom outside. When spoken to softly, Shadow will approach handler and socially jump up on handler with a wagging tail, soliciting attention and accepting pets on the head briefly. Shadow continues to accept treats from handler but when seeing a dog passing by begins pulling and vocalizing towards them. He is difficult to redirect at this point until the dog has passed. Shadow is brought back to kennel and handler tosses treats into kennel which Shadow excitedly follows in after.
